Maverick Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 » I didn't mean November 2007 people  Rob, Its just so damm long, that it will take me a lifetime to smoke. I promise that I will smoke it ASAP. I just need a nice comfy place to smoke, waiting for that smoking lounge to be built at the Czar Humidor. Ross...

El Presidente Posted December 13, 2005 Author Posted December 13, 2005 Ross... I know that you are recently married....BUT TAKE CONTROL MAN! Ring your wife now and ask her to put some beer on ice and cook something up which is to be ready when you get home. Say grace, eat, say thanks and retire to the deck for the cigar. Finish your cigar, make a few mental notes, brush teeth, make love, post your review tomorrow. If you have any problems get her to call me. I am thinking of doing a weekly marital advice column along with Mel ;-)
cvm4 Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Will do as soon as I head to the shop. The weather should be in the 60's this week, so if it doesn't rain then I'll head out onto the deck to smoke it.

smk819 Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 All right I'll be the first to review: Appearence- Medium brown with few veins, there was a slight unravaling of the wrapper, but it didn't effect the smoking of the cigar. Clipped with Xikar, pre-light draw was perfest, not a hint of tightness. The taste was a pure tobacco taste without any other flavor suggestions. The lit cigar had a mild creamy taste througout with the occasional hint of honey. I smoked it to the nub thououghly enjoying every bit of it. I would rate the cigar 85/100 and guess it might have been a Saint Luis Rey Lonsdale. Thanks to all the gang for letting me participate in this great member bonus.
CIGARHead Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 So a December 13 review for a November cigar. Here goes. I have to be honest, I smoked this last week, but the rum has gotten the best of me these last 4-5 days and have been too wobbly to concentrate much. I did however jot down some notes. Let's see if I can decifer my chicken scratch. Looks to be a lonsdale, very good construction, light colorado wrapper with a fine sheen of oils. The prelight smell of honey and hay was a welcome sign this would be a great cigar. Clipped the sucker with my Xikar and took a draw...perfect amount of resistance and an earthy, mild sweetness. Used my trusty creme brulee torch and she lit beautifully. Copius amounts of smoke and a razor sharp burn. Light to medium bodied, but full of flavor. Fresh tilled earth and rosemary came to mind. An ever so light sweetness played ping pong in the background. I had more than a couple glasses of Zaya rum on the rocks though the last few glasses added a splash of OJ. Halfway through enjoying this delicious gift my doberman Sadie jumps up and goes crazy at the mini-dog walking by. She is on a tie down, but none the less scary if coming at you. I jump up to pull her back and my cigar falls - the damn dog stepped on it. Pissed off I send her inside and clip the mangled foot. Re-light and proceed. Not a terribly complex cigar although the flavors did play hide and seek.Smooth notes of Earth and honey, nuts and wood, earth and honey, nuts and wood. The subtle sweetness and herb meshed great with the aged Zaya. Nubbed it as I do all my cigars that are good. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. 89 I dont have much experience in the way of lonsdales, but it did have the light bodied smooth creaminess of the El Rey del Mundo. My guess is the ERDM Lonsdale. My thanks to our gracious pusher and Lise and Smitty for shipping it my way. Much appreciated.
Spud2 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Well I've never reviewed a cigar before, but heres the short and sweet version. Appearence- Light brown wrapper, light veins, about a 40 ring X 6.5". Pre-light draw- good. Burn- Good consistant throughout, no relights required. Taste- No real outstanding flavor profiles, slightly creamy, enjoyable Overall- Quite good cigar, nubbed it, I know I haven't had this cigar in the past, but would revisit it (once I find out what it is). Rating 86-88/100. Thanks for the opportunity Rob/El Prez
CIGARHead Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Come on fellas! I posted a review and Im probably the laziest bastard here...and I was loaded with my rum drink at the time.
Ken Gargett Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Attractive old teak colour, a little veiny. Cold smell of old dried leather and raisins and there were touches of this when lit. Quite a spicy, richly flavoured style. Some earthy notes and one of those very helpful tasting notes like the character of old tobacco. Reasonable draw, a couple of very minor hiccups there the only problem i had with it. Think that it had a couple of years of age but that it is of the style that it still has its best before it. I can’t recall smoking one of these before, or if i have it was either a good while ago or possibly at one of rob’s lunches, pre the poetry reading. I thought that there were some classic Partagas notes here and in pulling out the measuring stick and the books etc, the only Partagas, indeed the only cigar i could get to fit exactly was the Serie De Connoisseur No 2 (unless rob has pulled his trick of different cigars for different people). I thought it worth a solid 91 - some of you guys are hard markers! Have seen a lot of positive stuff about these and can see why.
jay8354 Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 This was a gift from El Prez, which I have to admit did not get enjoyed till now. Esp I just had a flu and have read the post about the waste of a Cohiba. Anyway onwards to this Blind review (my first): November Mystery Cigar Year/Month/Factory* Year Compulsory - All unknown The cigar is a lonsdale, no hard spots when rolled in the fingers. Excellent tones of tobacco and leather at the foot of the cigar. The burn was a little troublesome but that was only because I was smoking outdoors and the breeze was constant and played havoc with the cigar. Construction - very good, no hard spots Wrapper - light tan colarado, a few veins Draw - just a slight tightness, which is what i prefer Taste - very mild, a hint of honey and cream. Some five spice at the latter stages of the burn. Summary - a excellent cigar, very mild but there are subtle complexities. Amazingly, when my wife asked for a puff, she actually enjoyed it. Overall Points out of 100 - 89 I could be way off the mark (and probably this is the case) but I am guessing it could be a Rafael Gonzalez Lonsdale.
n2advnture Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I finally had a free moment yesterday! WOO-HOO! (Waiting in line for 2 hours while trying to get my vehicle's emissions inspection - so I brought along the "mystery" smoke). Pre-light draw was very good. Wrapper was smooth with very little veining and slightly golden in color. It was firm to pinch but still just slightly on the giving side. From the get go, I would have guessed that this was an SLR Lonsdale. It was crisp & clean with a creamy smoke that had hints of wood & citrus, almost like a cream soda...that lasted through the first 2/3s. The last third was more woodsy and a little spice. Not quite a great morning smoke (which is when I had it) but would probably be perfect for after lunch or a light dinner. Very good but not stellar. I would guess a late 03 or 04 SLR Lonsale (back up guess would be ERDM Lonsdale). Thanks Rob! ~Mark
Maverick Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Rob, Here is my review. Sorry that I took too long to get it all together. I finally smoked this little master after cooking a nice BBQ dinner, which after giving the wife your marriage advice, she refused to cook it. I have never reviewed a cigar before, so be kind. I need to fully develop my tasting ability, because I felt terribly inadequate because I couldn't taste any of the flavours that people could. Appearence- Light brown wrapper, thin cigar about 1.5CM wide and about 17CM Long (Dont know the 'official terms'). Pre-light draw- good. Burn- Really good. Didn't have to relight during the entire smoke, lasted me about an hour and a tad. Nice even burn (Which for me is quite an accomplishment). Nice slow burn. Taste- No real outstanding flavor profiles, slightly creamy, Very enjoyable smoke, I found it really easy to smoke and wasn't so overpowering. Very sweet aroma couldnt quite pinpoint the flavour. Overall- Really nice easy to enjoy cigar and would definately smoke it again. I smoked it down as low as I could whilst maintaining fingers. Did go down nicely with a glass of Cognac. Rating - Not sure of the Scale, so I will just say 8/10 Thanks for the opportunity Rob however I dont think that I will provide the wife with your suggestion to "Cook my Dinner" because well the result was me having to cook Sausages on the BBQ.
El Presidente Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 Nice review Ross and thankyou to all the reviewers. Well as much as it pains me to admit it....Ken has Nailed the Cigar which was indeed a Partagas Serie De Connoisseur No 2. Even a brocken clock is right twice a day ;-) Will call for this months volunteers later this week.
cvm4 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Oh ****...I totally forgot about this with the holidays and all. I'll have to smoke it if the wind isn't too bad today.
