cottierm Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Very interesting article. Thanks for posting it. All the best, Michel
mazolaman Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Interesting read. Took me back to the Cuban sunset, and the choking smell of car fumes. Thoughtful aspects like the short plane flight, and his attempted explanations to his daughter were great. The spying, informant led culture is a frightening topic I have seen and read much of on our recent travels. Sad to read of countries used as experiments over many years.
asudevil08 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Amazing article only to be completely summed up in one sentence at the end - “There is no future,” he said. “We are lost.”
Nino Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Thank you very much for sharing this gem of genuine travel reporting, Khomeinist. It is one of the most profound and thoughtful articles on the Cuban identity ( and split identities ) as well as on the reality on the island that I have read in a long time. Should be required reading for anyone travelling there with the idea of getting a real insight. Suggest this should posted on the Cuba travel thread - for anyone seriously travelling Cuba beyond the "All Inclusive beach & cigars package" ...
khomeinist Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 This author should expand this into a book. His observations from Veradero were quite amusing. The accounts of the comite are rather chilling.

Yep I'd vote for that, it gives a good view of how things are, but is also very well written. Without being too one sided.
Guest rob Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Thanks for posing Commie! I'm traveling to Cuba in November for the first time... and with every word I read from people in the know - it's with excitement and apprehension!

Guest rob Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Yes mate. I got an invite from a good mate who is also going... and even though I'll be leaving at the busiest time of the year (hard because I'm self employed) I felt it was an opportunity to good not to take.
khomeinist Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 Enjoy my friend. Wish I could make it. Try the papaya lasagna at La Guarida if you are feeling frisky.
kps Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 This is a really good article that gives an inside view for americans hoping to travel to Cuba. I will be passing it on. Thanks for posting
thechenman Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Thanks for posting. Loved the write up. Best article on Cuba I've ever read.
