AlexOk Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 RG: 40 Length: 102 mm Longfiller, Totalmenta a mano Optics: The very beautiful and even slightly greasy wrapper has only very few veins. The warm Colorado Maduro increases the anticipation of enjoyment. Coldsmell: The cold smell is surprising floral and sweet. My first impressions were roses and orchids. Somewhat later light flavors appear that remind me of roasted hazelnuts. 1st third: The small cigar starts straight aromatic and spicy. In addition to the typical Cuban wooden note (my opinion), I find medium strong roasted aromas and coffee. A sweet-sour fruit notes in the background reminiscent of rhubarb. 2nd third: Later on the fruit acid disappears. It is replaced by a spicy-tart oak flavor. The woodsy flavor and the impressions of black coffee are retained. 3rd third: To the end rather floral aromas comes into the foreground. The circle to the coldsmell is completed. The main impression is formed by sweet almond and baked plum. Oak and herbs to form the flavors in the background. A successful conclusion to a short cigar. Burning, ash: The concrete-gray ash has good stability. A beautiful structure and a finely cracked surface completes the positive impression. The burning is very good.
CUBANO Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Thanks for the review, been thinking of getting a box.
maverickdrinker Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 thanks for the review.. been debating on whether or not to pick up some to try.
mk05 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I think they taste like crap currently, but can't say no to stocking up given the price point.

AlexOk Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 I must admit that I previously had no focus on Rafael Gonzales. The small Perla has led me to try some other Vitolas of RG. However, the other cigars I've tested, have not convinced. But Perla I found very tasty. Together with your comments (thank you for that) it brings me to the question, if my exemplar was just exceptionally good or is my taste just different? I'll probably smoke a few and then decide. Sent from my Smartphone Nothing wrong with your review. For the most part I agreed. I was commenting that it wasn't that great NOW. RG get better over time. The CE with 7yrs are a gem. Even the Pannies with 10yrs are excellent. This isn't a marca where it sucks for the first ten years and really kicks into high gear. Merely hinting that perhaps the aging potential has a limited ceiling.

Lotusguy Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I meant no disrespect - tastes differ or we may get lucky or unlucky with a particular box or stick
AlexOk Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Do not worry. I am always interested in other opinions and impressions. This helps me to verify my impressions and to learn something new. In this case, I do not know anything about the aging potential of Rafael Gonzales. Therefore you help me with your opinion. A Cigar Tasting is always subjective. And differences are, in my experience the rule rather than the exception. And hey, that's Cuba.
ksblazer Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Thanks for the review. Look forward to giving these a try as I like the Rafeal Gonzales line
