csandbothe Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I've had good luck with my Caliber III. I have another hygro that I calibrated, and they read identical.
CaptainQuintero Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Calibre 3 are quite good, they can't be recalibrated though, apparently they will never be more than 1% out. Which is funny cause mine is 3% out! But still, a fair item.
PartagasIV Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I have had very good luck with 3 or 4 of the Caliber III Digital Hygrometers. They all came pretty accurate, and the battery is easily replaceable when it dies.
brazoseagle Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Honeywell or Mead! I don't know the model #'s off the top of my head but it's on my thread when I built the kenmore cooler humido in the humidor tutorial section.
brazoseagle Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 This is what I've always used. With 3 additional sensors http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000EX83RU
ptrthgr8 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I've got two of the Caliber 3 units in my cabinet - one on the back of the top drawer (glass top) so I can see from above and the second placed on the edge of the lowest shelf. Both have worked fine since I've had them (9 months or so now?) and they're usually in sync with both temp and RH. If the fan on the humidifier is blowing it will make the hygrometer on the top spike a little, but when it's resting they read the same. The Caliber 3 is the right size and look for what I wanted - those big ol' clunky white things don't look good when viewed through the glass top. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
CanuckSARTech Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Personally, I've never had luck with those Caliber 3 units. Neither have I found good results with the small square Credo digital ones either (tried two different ones, one out 4% plus/minus [always shifting], and then another that was out 7% minus). About two years ago, I slowly started trying out the new(er) rectangular digital units from Xikar, the calibratable ones. All of mine are this now (aside from a small little cigar-shaped one that's in a desktop that I don't use much). I have 5 of them (two in the cabinet, and then one in each coolerdor). I recheck and calibrate them every 4-6 months, using the Boveda calibration packages. Spot on, all within 1% +/-. Very happy with them. No, contrary to what the OP asked for, they're not really a "pre-calibrated" unit, and 100% ready to go right out of the box. But I think they're a better option, long-term. My two cents.
danclough Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I have three Caliber III hygrometers and they've all been spot on. For each immediately upon receipt, I place them in an airtight container with a spoonful of salt with a few drops of water. All them registered exactly 75%. Honestly, I'm baffled by how salt + water = 75%, but mother nature is a mad scientist.
nikesupremedunk Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 What's the diff between a regular hygro vs a pre-calibrated? Won't they be off sometime in the future anyway? I have a QualityImporters Hygroset II or something like that. Calibrating it is very easy, and this one is dead accurate. I would highly recommend it.
