Nino Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Received an excellent book from my friend & merchant Mr Portmann that has just come out and I'm impressed by it's quality and wealth of "basic" and detailed information. It is by Habanos SA, in English, with 186 pages of high quality pictures and decent text. I especially liked the detailed information on planting, harvesting & fermentation plus all the information and real size pictures on vitolas. Spent the afternoon in the garden and finished it - never boring. (Rare) Compliments to HSA !
maverickdrinker Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I got the same book last week Nino. Beuatiful pictures and well written. A bargain for $25.00 CDN + taxes.
cottierm Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 As Art (and because he told me about it) I bought my copy last week. Excellent introduction (perhaps the best) with beautiful pictures and at such a cheap price! A must buy. Best, Michel

Habana Mike Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 A difficult question. Some are very informative but without beautiful pictures, others are purely coffee table books. Most are outdated now. If I had to choose one which is both beautiful and informative but also relatively cheap as a second-hand, I'll go with the Del Todesco. But I'm sure other people have their favourite! Best, Michel PS: I still have lots of love for the Gerard Pere & Fils production. I have a few of these and to my mind del Todesco's "The Havana Cigar" is one of the most insightful tomes on seed to smoke that I've read. While maybe not to the quality of some other publications, the photography is pretty spectacular in what's captured.
HabanoHam Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 All these great suggestions will definitely keep me busy during the winter since I can't smoke as often. I've been looking for some good cigar reading and this thread is the Jackpot. Thanks all!
Awwfudge Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Does anyone know of an electronic version of the cartilla rustica text that is described here: http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/highly-demanding-sizes-back-in-1963-and-something-else/ I would really love to read it. Thanks!
