nikesupremedunk Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 As some of you may remember, I have been having nothing but problems with my wine cooler since day 1. It would not hold steady RH due to high ambient temps causing the fan to run most of the time. Inspired by bundwallah from my other thread "does anyone use tupperware in wineador", I originally purchased 6 small tupperwares that fit perfectly in the cooler but gave up on it because each would only hold ~20 cigars or less, and I didn't want to buy 6 hygrometers/humi device. After countless hours searching, I finally found a tupperware that is air tight and also would fit perfectly in the cooler. I lined the inside with cedar sheets and purchased a extra large heartfelt 65% bead tube that I'm going to toss in there when it arrives. I fiddled around with kitty litter, but with the extremely limited space I have, it was just a pain to store and maintain. I've heard nothing but praises for the HF beads so I decided to go with them, and to save me a bit of a headache. So theoretically, by having an airtight tupperware that is self RH regulating, in a wine cooler that is temperature controlled, I will finally have a set up that is <70F/65%! I'm very excited since I've been trying to achieve this for the past 2 months. My cigars are already transferred to their new home (bish took me 3 hours to do ) and the beads should arrive today or tomorrow, so I'll report back when they arrive. Actually, I do have another tiny problem; the tupperware is not as big as I thought and I still have a box of RA extras coming in. I guess the only solution is to them faster! Onto the pictures... The tupperware fits perfectly in the bottom part where I kept all my boxes. The small tupperware will be used to hold daily smokes.
neilbrace Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 i use the same method but with a fridge for the last 3 years good luck.
CanuckSARTech Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Good job, very inventive. Should work nice for you. Cheers.
SuprHasan Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I do the same for the smokes that I either want to age for a while or the ones I believe to be a bittle special. If I can limit the temp and %RH swings, I'm sure it'll be better for the cigar.
demiurgic Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Top shelf idea right there! Save your money for the cigars and not the storage! Well done!
Wil Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I keep my singles in an old desktop humidor in my wine fridge.
