CallMeDrLove Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Let me just say, wow. This stout is one of the best I've ever had. Within the first 7 minutes of pouring it, it was gone. I wasn't looking to get a good buzz on, it was just that good. BeerAdvocate gives it an 89 - Good rating which I believe is a slight bit low for this brew. On the other hand The Bros give it a 98 - Word Class rating. As for me I'd give it a solid 95, or 96. It reminded me a lot of a Guinness but excelled where to me Guinness came up a bit short. It's malts had a roasted to perfection taste instead of being a little burned. You can definitely taste the chocolate and coffee flavors. But what I really loved was the cream taste and smell, I don't know if they use lactose in it but whatever it was, it makes it that much smoother without any bad bite to it. I encourage everyone to try this. I've got a few more beers I'd like to review such as, Landshark, Dogfish Head 90 Minutes IPA, and Underdog, Atlantic Lager. I also have a few more shipping to me such as, Golden Monkey, Wolaver's Oatmeal Stout, Skullsplitter, and New Castle Brown Ale (Which I've heard many mixed feelings about). Hope you guys enjoy my review. Cheers!
riazp Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 i'm more of an oatmeal stout guy myself personally. St-Ambroise oatmeal stout is one of my go to beers.
celtmick1984 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Welcome aboard, Dr. Love, and thanks for the review! I too enjoy a good stout and will keep my eyes peeled for that one. Some you must try include: from the Great Divide Brewing Company, The Yeti (original), as well as the espresso oak and chocolate aged versions; from Founders, Imperial Stout and Breakfast Stout (although almost anything from Founders is worth trying); from Avery, Mephistopheles and Samaels (the Czar was good, but not usually so); and from Dogfish Head: the World Wide Stout (though really more of a barley wine). Recently, I have been feasting on barrel aged beers, such as Minor Dementia from the Blue & Gray Brewing Co. (the most recent release is absolutely superb) and Dragon's Milk, from New Holland Brewing Company. Another Sam Adams you should try if you like belgians or barley wines is Griffin's bow: wonderfully fruity, with a touch of cream and some maltiness.
CallMeDrLove Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Thanks Celtmick I'll definitely try to hunt down some of those. Have you by any chance heard of Gulden Draak? Its a Belgium stout that is supposedly exquisite. I'm going to try to order myself a bottle. Heres a review, very cool looking bottle.
thechenman Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Two great stouts that enjoy from NY are made by Keegan Ales. Mother's Milk and Joe Mama's Milk are both fantastic stouts.
canadianbeaver Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I love Samuel Adams beer and have for years. Not so much of a stout fan but I will keep an eye out so thanks for the recommendation. As an aside, I also love the names of the other beers mentioned here.
samuelsmithbeer Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 As my screen name suggests I'm a big fan of Samuel Smiths. Imperial Stout and Oatmeal stout are my favorites. Although with cigars Pilsner Urquel is my first choice.

It does look worth hunting down. As luck would have it, the total wine nearby carries it . . .
