isa Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi guys, Need experienced smokers advice here - i am getting a box of punch RS 12 here locally with the box code USU VC 1. Seems like 1998 production - not sure though abt the year. What do u say - is it worth it?
maverickdrinker Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Well worth it. You can always trade them if you don't like them. Good age on them. Nice find.
PigFish Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 It all depends on price mate. I think '98 was a good year for PC's but if you are sensitive to stiff draws these cigars might not be for you. I have one or more (boxes) of these in '98 vintage still and if you are interested, for what it is worth I will evaluate them for you (my box) if I can easily find them. They are great smoking cigars (MHO). I have always favored these as great PC's but you have to be warned if you prefer larger rings and like draws that are a tad loose these won't likely be what you are used to! Caveat now aside, if the price is in line with other PC's I would buy them. I have not had one in some time now and as I recall they have a tad sour taste to them. It makes them a bit unusual but likable. Of course these that you are looking at may not be at all similar to what I remember. -Piggy
isa Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 Ok guys, your positive views are encouraging - so i guess i will go for it. Piggy, i guess i know what you are talking abt - i hav a box of Party sdc 3 from 99 or so - stiff draws - but tasty stuff. And thanks
PigFish Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I happened to be able to find a box of mine. Mine are VC-2 Construction is a tad loose for me, so draw concerns with this box are not likely a problem. Mine are dusty dark colorado hue with the overall appearance about 5 out of 10. I put these about average or below, aesthetically. They smell great, more musty than fragrant. Cheers. -Piggy
LGC Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Piggy... I think you need to go through the limes in your fruit basket I have 4 or 5 boxes of the 1998 RS 12's. These are cigars that suit my palate very well. In general, I'm not a huge fan of the Punch line. I find them to be more complex than the Part SDC #3's I have from 1999.
PigFish Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Piggy... I think you need to go through the limes in your fruit basket Yeah... what I think too! Have you seen the price of citrus? Once Lady Piggy milks them for her vodka, I don't think what they look like much matters... -LOL
isa Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 Thanks Piggy - i just received the box Just lighted up a Party sdc 3 from 98 i think - the complexity of the aroma is really from another world (though there is a metallic undertone) - but these older smokes are really worth their worth in gold, tight draw not withstanding.
khomeinist Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Partagas SDC3s took a dive from 99-2006. I would take 98 or 2006 SDC3 over RS12 anyday. But I am an (old-school) Party ho......
isa Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 Khomenist, i really wouldnt know - as i have only one box - so i cant compare. But the flavours seem in general way better than most recent smokes that i have. Luckily, our India distributor keeps coming out with these ancient boxes - and i jump at them
