Jnaube Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Hey FOH'ers, Not too long ago, I was smoking a cigar with a friend and we were having this debate around whitch is the best way to open a cigar. I personnaly prefer the classic cutter, he was lobbying for the punch, I taught one thing, he taught the other... So, lets settle the issue once and for all. What is the best way to open a cigar? Cut, guillotine, scissors, v cut, small or big punch? Enlighten me ;o)
Rushman Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Personal preference. For me, punch on most unless small rg or piramides, then trusty xikar scissors. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.630216,-87.069836
Cohiba Stevie Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Double guillotine... The only cutter that will open every cigar no matter what its ring gauge. Ive been known to bag xikar lighters but damn their cutters are superb! Im gonna try a xikar v cutter very soon.
wkoti Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I agree that a cutter will do must every job, but I prefer a punch, and I have about 10 different sizes of punches, from petite corona up to a punch that will open up a 120 ring gauge. I always start small and work my way up until I have the perfect amount of resistance. But I have noticed a increased amount of tar build up with punched cigars verses cut cigars. Just my $0.02 WKOTI
nikesupremedunk Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 i prefer straight cut. my cuban crafters cutter makes it easy.
Cohiba Stevie Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Cuban crafters perfect cutters are getting a lot of praise at the moment... I might purchase one as they are quite cheap to take the guess work out of cutting piramides.
Ghabanos Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Punch. But I second the tar comment. Mostly on cohiba maduro I've noticed
LGC Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Cut with a SAK cutter most of the time... and Palio the rest of the time. Angled cut on Beli's and Torps. It really doesn't matter though. Just like most things, folks will do what they feel is the "best"... and come up with their own reasoning. As long as you make a hole, that's all that matters... until excessive tar buildup demands another cut.
BrotherBear Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 You're supposed to cut them????? (it's the rum talking )
cckandb24 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I've never used a punch. Maybe it's time I try one out and see what it's all about.
amosnaim Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Prefer double guillotine. Recently bought a Palio cutter and it works great.
Pilgrims Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 double guillotine for me or I just pick the cap off, don't mind punches either but rarely use them
markmurase Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 For a number of years I used to punch cut all cigars except pyramides. I really like the way the puch cutter leaves so much of the cap intact, but got frustrated with uneven burns. I now use double guillotine and am happy with the improvement. My cigars are burning more consistently: most of the time
phoenix Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 My trusty 'light saber'. Otherwise I just use 'The Force.' But seriously if 'there can be only one'... I'll use a Katana crafted by none other than Hattori Hanzo. If I find myself with none of the above, then Xicar double guillotine.
Daidemo Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 3 Blade Scissors (poorly made but if you have few of them you have no problems).
