gersonmorelli
Tonight I decided to try the 3rd RA Estupendos from the first batch (2007) out of 5 singles I bought back when they were released, I gave up after the first inch... Seriously am I the only one who has had only horrible experience with this? Terrible draw yet again. I had to wear my lungs out to get a horrible bitter taste. Tossed it and decided to try something I didn't have high hopes: a RyJ Robusto EL 2001 from a couple I bought in Buenos Aires. This past January I went to Buenos Aires with my girlfriend and stayed at the Park Hyatt. Great hotel at Recoleta. I highly recommend if you're planning on visiting BA. The hotel has a nice cigar bar/lounge, and the whole outside area is very cigar friendly and enjoyable. This is a view from the yard between the two buildings, the older Palacio Duhau and the newer one. Anyhow, I bought a couple cigars there. Not a huge selection but some nice stuff. I bought 2 RyJ Robusto EL 2001, 2 1997 - 2003 Trinidad Fundadores (old band) and 3 HdM Piramides EL 2003. Prices weren't great but not everyday you find this kind of stuff. After tossing the piece of crap RA Estupendos I decided to try the first RyJ. I'm glad I did and sad that didn't buy more. What an amazing cigar. It has very nice fresh cherries flavors in the first few draws and they develop into maraschino cherries and then chocolate - stewed cherry flavors that were out of this world. By the last third the cherries were gone but the dark chocolate and rich toasted tobacco remained in what I believed was one of the best EL experiences I've had: mixing the typical flavor profile from the marca with a stronger chocolaty profile of EL. I understand that not everyone is fond of EL, but if this was how they were all done, it'd be a great experience! Sorry for the horrible iPhone pics. nick17
wow that cigar looks grate I wish I could get my hands on somethign like that and thats too bad you didnt pick up more. I have had vary few EL's one being an RyJ Duke, it was a good cigar but for the price i would have rather smoked many other things. I have also had a hand full of RA extras from last yeat and love them i have a box that i am aging and hping they will be god one i d decide to have the first one out of the box. I would like to see more EL's that are that good and that represent the marca, I feel that HSA should recreate one cigar from a marc's past every year as one of the EL's or its own separate line of special cigars. sam
I bought 5 of these on a whim years ago and have smoked 2 so far. Both were filled to rock-solid pefection, had a great draw, burned for over an hour with a razor sharp edge and produced copious amounts of smoke with the fabulous flavors noted by gersonmorelli. I consider the remaining 3 to be among the best cigars in my humidor. I wish more ccs were constructed so well. ----sam
Stevieboy
Glad you like the RyJ robusto. I've tried a few but never liked any of them which really annoyed as I'd spent an age tracking them down. I ended up selling the remainder of the box (except for one....couldn't let them all go lol)
