Outside studying for my board on Monday, and it's time for a cigar. I reach back in the humi for something from Andorra... My 1 single Partagas Churchill de luxe, from a 2000 box. Never ever seen these before I found a half box in Andorra's LCDH.

Let's see what shes got!

A light, extremely thin wrapper, showing a crack 1 1/2 inches long from the foot. An equally thin aroma. And this was the best single in the box when I bought it!

Expectations are not high...

I clip.

Shocked to find a perfect draw! Take that, 2000 vintage naysayers!

I light and take a puff

OLD SCHOOL!!!

white pepper with a nutty overtone. Some cream on the finish. Holy crap, this is great!

Probably the thinnest wrapper I've ever seen on a cigar. And yet, the crack has not spread further up, and I'm a full inch in!

The white pepper remains, and tastes fragrant, almost floral....almost. Burn is near bang on, draw is goods.

Lots of dry, unsalted nuts on the palate. Something akin to walnuts, maybe?

Into the middle third now

Some leather has crept in, and I find I need to double- puff to get the proper flavors out. Still quite enjoying it with my Laphroaig 10yr

Nice! If you at all are overly worried about wrapper condition, wet a towel and gently massage the cigar for several seconds.

Thanks for the advice! I thought I might have to do something, but the wrapper has actually held it's own, to my surprise!

A good tip to follow though in future! Thanks man :)

And we're done. Nubbed it right down to the end.

A fantastic, mind-changing cigar. Solid evolution of flavour, enjoyable partagas strength, with evident effects of aging to smooth any rough edges. Man....shoulda picked up more of these!

I went in expecting an 84.....and I got a 94. Magnifique!

Partagas Churchill de Luxe - worth the effort to find!

I have a box from 2001, which were some of the best, I've been told. I love, love, love them. You could still find 2000's and 2001's up until about 5 months ago. Mine are creamy and nutty and very little pepper spice.

I recently got a few vintage Partagas from a good friend in NZ, including a 94 Churchill De Lux. That was a good cigar, with pretty much straight peppery flavor. The 94 Partagas 898 was the real gem & after 18 years still a powerful smoke.

Party 898 is my Desert Island Smoke.
