Jason55555 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 ***I know some members read the White mold thread that I posted few weeks ago these are the same cigar that got hit with a the mold on the caps but after 2 weeks it didn’t come back so I was in the clear, smoke em. May 24 weekend! time to smoke cigars, BBQ, and slam down lots of drinks. I decided to pull out a cigar that I’ve been aging since last year it was the Montecristo No.2, it was time to see how they have settled into their flavours. I Paired this cigar with a normal cold Guinness beer. The cold draw wasn’t anything special the draw was a little air tunnelish but that I was my fault I went through all the Monte 2’s looking for the worst one to smoke, wanted to get the worst one so I can get it out from the pack of winners I have lol. First third started rather mild in the first third, VERY creamy smoke once again the draw was a little bit lose for my liking but it gave out tones of smoke. The flavours were straight and simple Dark coffee or espresso mixed with cream The second third was filled with Milk coffee with a touch of sugar, in the middle of this cigar gave a good sweet sugar coffee flavour which was amazing, and towards the end of the second third I was hit with a leather taste at end The final third espresso was the dominate flavour; I was also finally hit with a little spice which was a nice change from the coffee flavours. At the very end woody and cedar flavours make an appearance when the cigar was ending off. Overall it was an enjoyable cigar not amazing cigar but not a flat either. It had great flavours of coffee sweetness and spice this cigar started mild but finished into a full bodied cigar. It was a great enjoyable cigar, I’ve decided to join the Montecristo No.2 overrated club it was a great cigar but not mind blowing / must have cigar like ppl say 88-89/100 Thanks
CanuckSARTech Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 88-89, on Montecristo No 2, the most overproduced and quality-varying cigars, on a box that isn't overly dark or oily, and that doesn't even have a year of age on them???? I'd say that's a damn nice score, and not a bad performing stick considering the above. IMO, no where near the reason "to join the Montecristo No.2 overrated club". I love these, when dark and brooding, and with 2 to 4 years age on them.
Jason55555 Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 Yup that is true might have bashed it a little to hard considering the box but..... still think the hype around them is over blown the cigar was good but I've tasted much better Torpedos IMO, it gave me a so so flavor experience nothing amazing gave it high score because it delivered what it was supposed too, I just enjoy bit more complex flavors in a torp format.
jimmy81 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Year 2011 Monte 2, all I can say I got a good 2 boxes of 25's and a 10's. Without much aging, it was better than the previous one which is 2009 boxes. It came with dark wrapper, the smelt of strong coffee and the experience I had were great. Very smooth coffee taste, creamy and fragrant of woody of the smoke just blowed me away.

Which #2's do you prefer? Thanks.
Jason55555 Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 Bolivar Belicosos Finos are really nice and full body, H. Upmann Upmann No. 2 is also a good alternative, Partagas Serie P No 2 lastly a torp i recently had that was amazing. Once again to be fair the P NO2 had some age on it while my monte 2 had cupple of months, great cigar deserved the 89/100, ppl will love these 2011's but IMO just wasn't my cup of tea. CanuckSARTech prob right needs a few years.
semery74 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I love these, when dark and brooding, and with 2 to 4 years age on them. My favorites are the ones with velvety Colorado Claro wrappers between 5-10 years of age. I've had a few with 20+ years and they were about the same as a 2 year old. Either sick or in their second childhood.
