cottierm Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 CQ, they have been all the rage in Canada for a few years now! Best, Michel
asudevil08 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 wow that almost seems comical. Amaazing society has allowed government to become that intrusive.
Fuzz AI Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 All tobacco in NSW cannot be put on display (specialist tobacco retailers have until 2013 to comply). Drawers like these are behind the shelf doors. To be honest, I don't mind this. Taking cigarettes out of view in supermarkets, petrol stations and newsagencies is perfectly fine with me. However, I do find it ridiculous to enforce this tobacco specialist retailers. Just make it illegal for under aged children to enter the store and keep the products out of the direct view of the public (by that I mean, you have to walk in to the store to actullay see the packets). There wouldn't be a need for plain packaging in this case.
ptrthgr8 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Brilliant. More nanny-statism to keep the subjects safe from the evils of individual choice. Whatever would we do without the government keeping us safe from ourselves?
nick17 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 the only places that can display tobacco in Ontario Canada is specialty shops and that could end any time now... we rely all need to make it know we wont stand for this!
CaptainQuintero Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 First they came for the smokers and I did nothing, then they came for the fast food eaters, and I did nothing. Then they came for alcohol drinkers and there was no one left to do anything
mazolaman Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Unfortunately, our politicians are pretty impotent when it comes to important decisions anymore. eg.. Facebook sold for gazillions, and is huge in the UK...they pay no tax here. Amazon is huge in the UK...they pay no tax here.. Bono, huge in the uk....pays no tax here..... This is the kind of thing I expect government to correct, but they are impotent against these megalithic companies and their teams of lawyers. So the UK looses billions in taxes. The point being; Our governments have to look busy...as they can't do anything worth doing, so we get this stuff...and a law on the width of bike lanes, a law on the amount of crisps in a bag..etc... This excerpt is very enlightening, but the key moment is at about 2.30 in...we probably already knew that anyway..... "people get the government they deserve"
