I had a member ask me about this and I have no idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRTsutJs6oU

If you have any experience with them ....let us know :D

I've used these for years. I've used them out of the box and I've modified many to be more efficient. Rule #1, remove the foam. If done properly, it takes about 2 minutes. Do that before you do anything else. Rob, feel free to pass on my email to whoever had some questions.

You can simply replace with gel or beads, I use beads.

I've used a hydra for a year now, similar to oasis!

I too have removed foam and replaced with heartfelt beads

Works perfect!!!!!

Rob I've used the Oasis XL plus with the foam for about four years without a day of trouble. Other than occasionally filling with distiller water and replacing the water cartridge ever two years, I never gave to even look at it.

I'd skip the battery pack and plug in if possible. It easily maintains humidity in my cabinet humidor with around 500 cigars in it.

I have two that I no longer use. I have moved on to Shilalia beads. There is a problem with the Oasis....the sensor sits too close to the foam. That is an intrisic error that this type of humidifier has compared to remote sensors. I pulled the foam out of one and put in gel beads... did not help. The foam one would mold up.

Do they work well at keeping humidity down?

They are not 2-way devices, especially if you still have foam in.

Ditto what others have said. I use the XL Plus, with removed foam (replaced with beads initially, but have been using gel lately - need to update a thread on the results from that soon enough). These units, when used in conjunction with stand-alone beads somewhere else in your humidor (for the counter-effect as needed of reducing humidity), are awesome. Just as others have said, don't rely on it's hygrometer, but use a calibrated stand-alone digital one somewhere else in your humidor.

I've been using several of the cigar oasis XL plus for years and I am very happy with them. Yes, the foam can get nasty, but, if you replace them every few months you won't have a problem. I considering removing the foam and replacing with beads, but, I have yet to be able to get the top portion off without destroying the container. I use one of these in each of my 28 bottle wineadors and my tupperadores and have had great results. Yes, they may be overkill but they maintain a very constant rH and I never have to worry about them.

Rob, I have one of these with me in Sydney and would happy to bring it to the underground event if you'd like to check it out.

I've had four of them for the past six years. They are all consistent and work great with the foam as long as you don't over fill them with water.

I have an Oasis XL II which I'm very happy with. In conjunction with a lot of beads, it keeps 100ft^3 kept perfectly at my choice of RH.

I am concerned about the foam but have not had issue with it yet.

Use a small spoon, one that will fit into the larger hole, and just start hacking the chunks away. The foam piece overall isn't glued within the casing, so just keep hacking, and eventually you'll get small enough chunks that will fall out. Just be sure to empty it and wash out really well....
