Sat down with yoruba tonight and smoked a couple of monte reservas and la escepcion.

He unbanded them to have me guess as always and I took part in his game. Cigar had a light sheen on the claro looking wrapper. Once lit, I thought for sure I was smoking a Le Hoyo serie. Creamy, a little bit of wood - if at all - no distinguishable monte taste. I thought i was smoking a Hoy Prince. Very generic, nothing of note.

We smoked some escepcion, which we also thought was just, "meh." I dont understand the rave this cigar gets. It nothing special. JL1 would be better imo and thats saying a lot.

Smoke what you like I guess.

I was wondering about the La Escepcion... seems to be a lot of "if I spend THAT much on a stick, I better damn well like it" going on, given the crazy prices that people want for them. 50%+ markups in the secondary market... Who wants to admit he overpaid for a mediocre cigar ;)

Regarding the MGR, I still need to smoke that single that I have and form my own opinion - I do have a decidedly weak spot for Monte #2 since that was the first CC I ever had.

My smoking buddies and I have loved the monte gran reservas we have smoked so far.

The original post was regarding the M4 Reserva. I asked pedro for more details on it if any. Then I was hoping Id like the M2 Gran Reserva more than this.

Oops - I was confused then.

I for one totally love the Monte #4 Reservas. The ones I have smoked were just like the best #4 I ever had amped up by 5.

Well glad you liked yours C. Sometime, ask a friend to take the band off it along with several other marevas, and smoke them down the line. I've found that it's surprising how shiny bands can really polarize an experience.

Just did that with the blind tasting cigar #1 ;)

Sorry about the post, I was confused. The cigars were wonderful and I have really enjoyed all of them that I have smoked, except for the price. 1st third hay and coffee, 2nd third was creamy, but got a little taste of some pepper and fruit, and the final third continued with some sort of fruit and had spice throughout the 2nd half of the cigar. It is not like any other monte #2 that I have ever smoked.

Pedro - you should really start some reviews yourself mate. What else you got hiding brother? :D

Tried the Cohiba GR tonight and thought it was ok. Didn't blow my mind. The Fonseca Consacos on the other hand...

This is what most people say, and what is so odd about this cigar. Smoked through two boxes of these and have yet to have one that surpassed some of the better regular 4's I've had. Never had a great or even very good one. Yet I have friends who would trade me CGR's for my remaining stash.

Palate's are funny things.
