Phillycyclocross Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I was wondering if anyone has tried any of these lately. I bought a box of 2011 "PSP"'s recently and while I plan on aging them I did try a couple just because I'm that impatient and they have been a HUGE disapointment. The draw has been very firm. Like trying to suck through a brick firm. Not that I'm big on picking out notes but the only flavor I get from threse are burnt tobacco. Every once in awhile I'll get a draw that has a great flavor of toast but that's one draw in the whole cigar. I can think of 20 NC's off the top of my head that blow this one out of the water. Very disappointing. In fact, I'm smoking a La Herencia Obscuro Fuerte corona that I've been dreading of having for awhile now for some unknown reason. Maybe the name just sucks. Not sure why but I haven't ever wanted to smoke this thing. However, it's been amazing. Razor sharp burn. Great flavors of coffee and hazelnuts. I'll spare everyone my crappy review of it but needless to say the one NC cigar I've had that I thought would be the worst has been one of the best I've had in awhile. Go figure.
bambam Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Joey, I bought a box several months ago and they are smoking awesome. So much so I am looking to stock up if I can make space. A sweet, smooth, milk coffee, balanced cigar.

Phillycyclocross Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 do you have your RH around 60?? If not give them a rest at 60 and try one then It's at 65rh. I'll try putting them in 60rh for awhile and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip.
El Presidente Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Joey you really need to put them away for 30-60 days. While you can get lucky smoking them right off the truck they need that time in your humidor (I like them 60-63 RH) to acclimatise and find their feet. Travel takes a lot out of cigars.
KWG116 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I had the same experience with my box when they first arrived. I am a huge upmann fan and smoked a few right away. There were terrible. This was about 18 months ago. I was so disappointed that I put them in my cooler and forgot about them. Yesterday I grabbed one and tonight I smoked it. What a difference. I actually forgot to put a boveda pack in with them so they were about 60%. What a smoke. Reminds of my 07 mag 46s and my08 mag 50s combined into one cigar Clean tobacco with a nice ceaminess. I have always heard upmann pcs take a while to come around. And in my opinion they do. But if this cigar is any indication it is worth the wait. Put these away for awhile they will be great.
charlesod Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I just bought a box of these. I have to admit, mine have been awesome. Only smoked 2 so far. I plan to post a review this week. My box is PSP. The burn is slow, the smoke thick. Toasty, woody, classic H Upmann taste. Young but excellent.
Phillycyclocross Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 Thanks for all the tips everyone. I plan to put the rest away and forget about them for a few years.
Wil Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 One of my favourite PCs. As Rob says, give them at least 30 days rest and revisit. I saw the PSP boxes that were on offer a month or so ago. They looked amazing.
