Rushman Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 http://la5tahabanos.blogspot.com/2012/03/trinidad-coloniales.html Trinidad Coloniales - 12-Mar-2012 Origin: Cuba Format: Coloniales Size: 44 x 132 Box Date: Sep 08 Initial Thoughts: Aroma at cold is almost like green tea leaves. Draw at cold is firm. Construction is nice with a dark wrapper. Opening: Draw remains firm but gives way to large volumes of smoke. Initial flavors are pleasant tea leaves and a slight cocoa character. Medium strength at this point. First Third: A coffee flavor appears on the back of the palate during retrohale. Tea leaves remain but are on the front of the palate. Burn is a bit wonky for a cigar with a few years of age. Medium strength still. Second Third: Strong coffe flavors on the back of the palate remain and nuttiness/chocalate flavors have appeared. No real change in strength. Final Third: Slightly stronger but not much. No real evolution of flavors but some tasty coffee and chocolate continue. Conclusions: I like this marca and vitola although I would choose other Trinidad vitolas over this one, like a Reyes or Robusto T. I have enjoyed smoking from this box though. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.630110,-87.069799
headstand Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Thanks for the review - I've enjoyed your posts. That cigar minder would have come in handy for me yesterday. Left a Reyes in the ashtray while I went to fetch the drink I left in the kitchen. When I got back to the deck the cigar was nowhere in sight. Wind just picked it up and tossed to the floor - frantic search ensued... all good but for a bit of wrapper damage.

It comes in handy now because I have a bad habit of leaving the cigar on the arm of my chair and more often then not it rolls off. I'm ok with a bit of wrapper damage but the spring is worn in well so no cuts or scrapes just some dents now and then.
nonameno Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Hi Rushman, Great review and fun pictures! I'm not sure if the green tea leaves is my profile or not yet... Now it would be fun to follow up with reviews of the Reyes and Robust T. Thank you for sharing, Curtiss

I can likely find Reyes at LCDH but doubt Robusto T's. Would you settle for an Ingenios? --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631737,-87.070552
jazzbass Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Another fantastic early in the day cigar. Not usually known for it's complexity but very satisfying. Thanks for the review.

jedipastor Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Nice review! I like the Coloniales a lot, but they are MUCH better with age, my friend! if you can manage to keep from smoking them all, try to save a 5-er for like 4-5 years.

Well everything on the shelves are either up for sale or for me to smoke.....hopefully the former more than the latter by a wide enough margin to keep me in 2-3 smokes a day (oh yeah and pay the rent, employees and other store expenses and a profit for the wife and I). If they don't sell I will try to keep em around for a while. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631757,-87.070559
