ptrthgr8 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Hi, folks! Does anyone know how the VR Unicos from 2011 and the Monty Eagles from 2010 are smoking at the moment? I've been eyeballing these for a while, but other boxes always cut in front of them. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
ct4 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I cant help with the VR but as far as the Monte Eagle, in my opinion, there are better smokes to be had..if you are looking at something around that size i would recommend the Edmundo or RyJ Wide Churchill.. Cheers, CT

Cheers, CT Thanks, CT. The general consensus on the shoutbox agress - the Eagles are... well... less than stellar? (I'm being generous.) I will be more than happy to put those funds towards a different box of cigars. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
brazoseagle Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 VR Uniocos are great, I always have some along with some Famosas in my stash. As far as the Eagle - I don't think I am allowed to use that kind of language on this forum!
tydra Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Agree with respect to the Eagles, nothing wrong with the construction and draw, but it's just too bland and there aren't really any discernible flavors that you'd expect from a Cuban of that size and price point.
Rushman Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 2011 VR's are smoking well. I've only had one eagle and it was from 2010 and it was awful. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631737,-87.070750
ptrthgr8 Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 Looks like I'll definitely need to add a box of the VRs to my next order. Thanks for the input, folks! ~ Greg ~
ptrthgr8 Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Definitely stay away from the eagles. Done and done!
Rushman Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 As a follow up I did an eagle review not too long ago and if I recall I likened it to wet bread. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631737,-87.070571
tmac77 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 The VR's are IMO the best Torpedo out of cuba today. The Eagles.... ugh....
TWalker Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I've had 3 of the 2011 Unicos and I've found them consistently great. --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?0jcis1
zappaFREAK Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Currently enjoying a box of VR Unicos immensely!!
Diamondog Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Have boxes of the Unicos, the Monte's, not so much lol
Guest rob Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I've never had a Monte Eagle - I am curious to hear from those that have had a few though - would you rather an Eagle or an NC at the same price point? No, I'm not debating buying a box of either... I'm just curious.
RollsMD Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I smoked a Monte Eagle the other night from a box I spilt a while back, my friend warned me how bland they were but I smoked it. It def is one dimensional and the flavor does not suggest any aging potential. I will prolly smoke them on the golf course or place them in the "moochador" . Def disappointing considering the PE's are 1/3 of the size and have ridiculous flavor and potential.
CigarmanTim Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 The VR's are IMO the best Torpedo out of cuba today. The Eagles.... ugh.... Ditto this
mk05 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Smoking a vr unicos 11 box. Very very herbally. How interesting.
cigcars Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 'surprised to see you comparing a Vegas Robaina to a Monte Open (Eagle)...thought y'all hated the newer Monte Opens! I see that's still the case from the comments!
