maverickdrinker Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Hey Nino, Any idea on pricing for the new cohiba piramides extras? Saw that they were released at the dinner. Did you smoke one yet? If so, what were your impressions?
Nino Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 Hi, another day that starts with a large hangover .......... You'll have to wait for pics as I cannot upload them from here, would take weeks to do that. Having a great time here but the circus is pure madness, will be happy to leave HAV behind this sunday and head for a few days to Playa Larga beach and breath fresh air for a change. Yesterday we smoked the Dulcineas that will come out for Sancho Panza - great smoke. Have tried the first blend of Cohiba Gran Piramides and they were delicious as they had Medio Tiempo and the old band - the ones that will be released will have no MT leaf and a new band .... not as good. Lunch at El Templete today after a long dinner there last night celebrating Jimmy's successful bidding for beautiful Cohiba Humidor made by Valladares and containing 146 BHK 56 with a lovely second band commemorating the 2-nd Anniv. of the Habana Libre Casa. Missed the PCC party in Old Havana but being with Jimmy and good Cuban friends was worth every minute. Off to a shower and another day of cigars - been smoking 6-8 a day and the "suffering" is good. Tomorrow off with Andy, Rob, Stewart Fox and the rest of the band to the baseball game - still don't know whoich stadium we'll use ..... Regards Nino

Great report Nino. That kinda sucks. They're giving out a Piramides Extra blend that is not going to be the blend that makes it to final production? I can understand using the old band either due to security reasons (not to give bootleggers a head start) or they don't have a full supply. Does this blend change happen often from Festival to regular production?
SurpriseMVP Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Off to a shower and another day of cigars - been smoking 6-8 a day and the "suffering" is good. Quote of the month right there
Orion21 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 What a disappointment that there will not be any medio tiempo leaf in the new pyramid extra. I makes me wonder if the final blend is going to be far to robust for it to make much of an appearance. From smoking a number of BHK's I have always found them very very subdued, but brilliantly blended. I am sure they will be wonderful either way. Nino, did you smoked the blend without the MT leaf?

Regards Nino Can you smoke in your seats while watching baseball in Cuba? That would be heaven for me. The U.S. is moving closer and closer to an environment where a license and tax will be required to fart outside the confines of your own home, but I digress. I'm really enjoying these reports. Thank you! Cheers! Joe

Guys, lets not get too ahead of ourselves. I think there's some con-fuzz-sion going on here. Nino's talking about the Cohiba Gran Reserva Piramides it looks like. A different ball game altogether methinks from the new Piramides Extra that they're releasing this year. At least, that's what I gathered from Nino's post. He may clarify down the line.

Am I missing something?

Gran Piramides - someone was talking about it a bit ago. Something that J.S. mentioned on his blog, that it's a release that's on the horizon for four or five years out, that they've already done the prototypes/testing of the blends just lately, it's somewhat finalized, and they just have to sit on it for a few years to wait out the aging.

I'm pretty sure his blog mentioned a GR Behike.
Mr.T Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Nino, thanks for the great updates from HAV! I really enjoy reading your blog as well. When I read that you would be away for a while and not posting I let out a long NOOOOOOO.....Good thing there is FOH! Thanks for posting and looking forward to hearing more about your time in Cuba.
Nino Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Hi guys, back in HAV after a beautiful time in beach heaven at bay of Pigs, Playa Larga ( Long Beach ... ) and Caleta Buena. Lungs are back to 100% oxygen and I've been eating the best food on earth, lobster, fresh fish, crocodile, jutia (water rat, big and juicy) and everything else the cuban family I stayed with put on my table / drinking lots of rum and smoking good cigars there as well. Passed through Australia on my way and stopped for pics at a rilway depot that had trains from 1914 and 1920 ... love the name, Central Australia .. No confusion : I am talking about the new Cohiba Piramides Extra / that's the one I've smoked with MT leaf and it wioll not come out with MT but without / different animal. Guess which one I prefer .... Getting my cigars to take home organized, a few lunches and dinners, organized a visit to El laguito for friends and a trip to Vinales/Pinar and will try to head back home earlier. 4 Weeks are just a long time, but this time I have really relaxed, vbacationes, had time on the beach, smoked, and ... did not miss the Festival ! BTW : The baseball match was one by the Irish/International gringos 15/14 and I actually batted and hit !! ( Forgot to run after hitting but I was too happy yelling "I hit the ball" ... OK, off to smoke a cigar with Yolanda downstairs. Nino
FrankBlack87 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 wow awesome Nino! Glad to hear you are doing well. Always love your updates..cant wait to try a pyramides extra
mk05 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 ...I've been eating the best food on earth...jutia (water rat, big and juicy) Gasp
mikec Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I'm assuming Yolanda is still at the Robaina shop at the Melia Habana? I always make sure I get a bundle of her customs as I always thought they where among the most consistently good cigars. Is Antonio still working the bar upstairs these days or has he moved on to other ventures? I am meeting up with Amir when he gets back and hopefully he had drummed up a lot of interest in the Partagas book (also thanks to you the book has gained some notoriety). Anyway please keep up the reports for us poor shmucks who didnt get to go this year. I also miss the great pizza at the italian restaurant across the hallway from the Robaina store. Later...take care.
Nino Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Hi, back at the Melia for a quick lunch with Punch Joe and a friend. Hot as hell the last 3 weeks except for a few days of clouds. Good to be inside or in a shaded patio. Yolanda is right here and rolling, Antonio "El Chinito" is also here and it's always a pleasure to see him tending the bar. Have so far finalized everything here and after the great days at Playa Larga/Caleta Buena, HAV is just a hustling bubble. Guess I'll head home pretty soon. Amir did a great job here with the book and at the baseball match, it was a pleasure to see him again ! Cheers, later, Nino
