canadianbeaver Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Hello my fellow cigar smokers who have visited Chicago. I was there in December and enjoyed the store and lounge at Iwan Ries, and met Richard, the manager. He sent me this e-mail today: Good Day Cigar Smokers- The Cook County Cigar and Tobacco Tax is being voted on once again this Thursday. Please take a few minutes today or tomorrow to call or email your county commission board member to express your concern over the proposed new Cigar and Tobacco tax. We have been advised that the board members did not hear from enough voters prior to the last hearing. Please go the following link; call, and email as many of the board members as you have time. Most importantly call and or email the commissioner for your ward. http://www.iwanries.com/Events.cfm Regards, Richard Ray Bley 847 630 9944 [email protected] Iwan Ries Lounge 19 South Wabash Avenue 2nd Floor Chicago, IL 60603 800 621 1457 www.iwanries.com A follow up e-mail then came when I asked him if he would like me to post this here: Good Day Lisa- Nice to hear from you, hope all is well. It would be awesome if you posted it. The tax does not only effect us here in Chicago, it effects anyone who orders Cigars and Tobacco from Iwan Ries, and we have a huge global following. People need to let our commission know that if the taxes rise they may be forced to purchase form other vendors, meaning the proposed tax increase will actually create a loss in business that will reduce the amount of taxes collected. Regards, -rrb
BobLobLaw Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Iwan is my standard lounge and Richard is awesome. Any help that you guys could give would be appreciated by us all out here in Chicago. Very cool idea in posting. If anyone is ever in Chicago be sure to check out the lounge. Ben
MIKA27 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 DO IT GUYS because otherwise, you will end up like Australia, taxed to the teeth! The best of luck to you all.
Habanos2000 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Yes, what a shame the financial mess that the city of Chicago as well as the state of Illinois has gotten itself into. Their main resort to the deficit is to add additional taxes on anything that moves, good luck with that I say. To me it's like giving an addict more drugs instead of performing an intervention. I don't live in the city limits so my call or email will mean nothing to the politicians that only care about themselves and who will vote for them. But if anyone is a resident I hope you can find the time to drop your representative a line and let them know that this is not welcomed.
