Evangundy Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 As someone who has been smoking non-cuban cigars for a while, you learn that certain brands have a certain level of quality. By this, you typically know what to avoid and what to try... I have never smoked a Cuban Cigar, so I was looking for some insight into if this is consistent in Cubans as well? Are there certain brands that should be avoided or should you try them all? I usually try something once, because you never know, but since I will be ordering these and spending some good money, I thought it would be good to have an informed decision.
brazoseagle Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Oh man....where to begin? The first thing you need to be aware of is once you start smoking the glory that is Cuban Cigars, you will never want another Non-Cuban again, they will churn your stomach. You will be selling and giving away all of your NC stash, because you won't even want to look at them. Secondly, try some sampler. The Czar has some great samplers that he has put together for a quality tasting spectrum. Petite Coronas are a great introduction to the different flavor profiles of each vitola. I would purchase the Petite Corona Sampler, the Piramid Sampler, maybe even the Robusto Sampler, and the Partagas PArty pack is one of the best deals on there. Read some reviews, listen to the chatter on this site, get involved with some threads around here, you will learn what's good and what's not, what's value and what's hype. For me I love the Partagas line, the Montecristo line, the Bolivar lines the most. Welcome and good luck !
Habanos2000 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 I think it's a pretty safe bet that most of the Cuban brands you've heard of are the better of what's out there. There are some Cuban brands that are considered second tier, but they aren't discussed that often, if at all, at least on this forum. The fun part of finding what you like will be taking a few brands and then digging deeper into the line to see which sizes and blends float your boat. You're at the right place for the best information and service to help you on your journey. Read some reviews, watch some videos and interact with everyone. It all makes the trip that much more fun! Enjoy!
Quantim0 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I've been enjoying the world of CCs for about a year now and I still don't really know where to go next. I will say the samplers on the Czar seem like an awesome deal for a new person to the CC world. Personally I just started buying boxes of the "go-to" cigars: Boli petite coronas, Partagas shorts, PSD4, San Cristobal principe, Monte #4, Monte #2, Party 898V and a few others. I have a huge 150 qt cooler full of NCs and I don't really want to venture in there much anymore, so be prepared for that.
mk05 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 just buy a bunch of boxes. if you don't like them, put them away and buy others. i guarantee at some point, you will come back to those cigars and say, "huh, these are fantastic. I don't know what I was thinking."
mk05 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 This and vice versa has happened to me so many times! I hated the PLPC, Punch PCDP, Monte PE, PSD4 and a few others at first, now I enjoy them all. I loved the RyJ Short Churchill, RyJ Caz, Trini Rob T, Party SC2 and Coh Magicos at first, but will bypass them every time when rummaging through the humi now. Strange how that works...I'm hoping I either love them again soon, or they get better soon. Otherwise, they'll be gone soon...lol I bet several years down you will pick one up and find it wonderful bro. Or you could just send it to MO and spin the wheel of fortune. bahhahaah
Jason Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 save piedra and quintero for last and enjoy the rest, vegueros seem to turn a lot of folks off but I like them now and then
thechenman Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I've got two words for you...Guantanamera Cristales...
