mk05 Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Today I am smoking an EMS BHK56 from JJF. This vitola exhibits a much lighter shade wrapper than the 52. Contruction-wise, the cigar is loosely rolled, much like handrolls. No pictures as my phone was swiped last night at a concert. This review will also be short as I do not like this cigar. Twisting off the pigtail, the draw is excellent, thanks to the loose roll. On par with the 1966 draw. Upon lighting, the cigar greets the palate with muddled meatiness, and cashews through the nose. It's easy to see why this cigar is a crowd pleaser, as the draw is effortless, the flavors are simple, and the quality of smoke somewhat velvety and soft. The 56 doesn't change much, keeps its straightforward meatiness and cashew profile, and develops a touch of cream. Around the middle, the cigar picks up a little bit of vegetal aftertaste and leaves a little bit of olive oil in the mouth. The body also stays at a mild to medium. I must note that this cigar must be smoked slowly, as the smoke becomes acrid if smoked too quickly due to the loose draw. Chucked it 2/3 way through. Cigar gets a subpar rating of 60. If this cigar was $10, I'd give it an average rating of 70-75, but with such a high price tag, and a lack of aging potential, this suffers. You can find a similar profile with a Cabaiguan CE.
