Colt45 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 While watching the "Heart and Soul of Cuba" trailer, this image of the bunched and bound cigars kind of jumped out at me: I know that at times (or perhaps always), rollers use two binder leaves. The picture makes it look like the choice for binder might be a bit indiscriminate, and I wonder how much consideration is given to the binder - do they feel it adds anything to the final cigar?
CptKloss Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 i'm pretty sure it does affect the flavors...but for that very reason i'd expect them to use leaf that is as neutral/bland as possible, so to minimise variance in taste... wouldnt be surprised if "premium" cigars were getting more attention in this department...
BrotherBear Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Keep in mind that factory rollers just do as they are told...
Scarhead Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I've wondered the same thing in regard to binder leaves also. The binder leaves have to add flavor unless they are completely neutral in taste. I have always thought that they were lower quality, for a lack of a better term, and used just to hold, or bind, the filler together.
vivalanation734 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 In the NC world I know a lot of blenders use wrapper leaf that didn't make the cut (for visual purposes) for binder. Might be similar in the world of habanos.
