winelover Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Anyone think the Robusto-T will age well? I've only tried the reyes and coloniales and prefer the coloniales profile. never tried a robby-t and i'm tempted to pick up a 12 or 24 box before they are consigned to history. Any predictions on ageing? Thanks Graham
Van55 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I will lament the deletion of the T. The early release ones were spectacular right off the truck. Robustos Extra have come around of late. I wasn't shocked at the price point of either. Reyes are the perfect little cigar with a morning coffee.
Rehman Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 My two favourite cigars of all time, deleted. My Upmann Mag 50s, still on strike. My '95 Giant Cadex CFR1 road bike, feeling its age. I'm going back to bed.
Pilgrims Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I like the "T"...surely this whole saga has "re-released as an LE and the same or higher price" written all over it? I'll buy some before they go
jedipastor Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 The Rob T is my favorite Habano along with the Bolivar CE (yea ... bad year for me, lol). At times the Rob T is like a bigger Reyes, but it's more than just that. They exhibit the caramel that I love in an aged Trini as well, and the older ones (09) are quite spicy. I also find them to be one of the best young Habanos out there. I think they are spectacular, and I for one like them better than the Cohiba Robusto (especially if the CoRo is less than 4-years old ... then I'd take the Rob T 10 times out of 10). I think the main problem with the Rob T and Rob Extra was the price point. They are both great sticks, but buying a box of non-LE/RE cigars at those prices makes it a big risk for people, and I guess not many guys took the risk (which is a shame). To discontinue the Rob T after 2 years though is just insane. A lot of guys I know won't even touch Habanos that are that young, let alone smoke enough of them to have a solid opinion. It's just ridiculous. You know the mark-up on these is huge, why not just drop the price $2/stick? Or make it a LCDH cigar? I just don't get HSA. Oh well, I've hoarded 100 of them, so I'll be allright. I could use some more Rob Extras, though.
jedipastor Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I have absolutely enjoyed my MSO JUN 09 box of T's. Sad to see these go but the price has been a limiter for buying more. All of my remaining boxes are from 2010. Anyone noticed a difference from 2009 to 2010? I have limited experience, but yes. I had an '09 gifted to me and got a 5-er here (box split). I've got a ton of '10s. Based on what I've smoked, I'd say these get spicier as they age. The '09s are noticeably spicier than the '10s, but still have all the flavor. By "spicy" I mean not "spices" but a spicy sensation, and I mean very spicy--more than the Reyes or nearly any other Habano I've had, actually. I'm guessing after a few more year's the spice will settle back down. I personally LOVE the '09s and hope the '10s grow into that spiciness. Imagine a well-aged Coloniales with it's caramel and cream, but over a spicy core (and of course with that clean Trinidad character). The '09s are very exciting and delicious cigars, in my opinion.
