TankerT Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I can figure out what you're using for most of it, except for the exhaust fan. Is it a special fan just for that tent? I think I'm missing something there...
El Presidente Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Necessity is the mother of invention .......
IcedCanuck Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Good job! You've got us all thinking now
nick17 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 well done! i need to look into the same thing
Colt45 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Okay, you're nuts! Great job - keep us updated.

I think I'm missing something there... Nope, it's just a regular fan. A friend suggested buying a vent fan (powerful, is supposed to help the flow of air in vents) and use flexible tubing - slip the tubing into the tent and leave the fan outside. But first, I'm going to try a regular, double window fan and see if that has enough power, might just prop it up in one of the tent windows.
CanuckSARTech Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 LOL. Awesome. Well done, Pedro. I'm looking at piping in heat to my garage, so that I can use it more readily in the wintertime. I'm looking at putting in a natural gas heater, plumbed onto the ceiling or something like that, and with some air scrubbers in place somehow. Can't wait to look into it over the Christmas holiday.
Orion21 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Very nice setup. Just inform the neighbors that the large orange tent with smoke coming out of it isn't anything to worry about. Just your cigar smoking room
audio1der Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Nice setup, but PLEASE be careful with that propane heater! They DO burn the oxygen from within the space. I actually got my oxygen level quite low in my garage last week and it was scary. Exhaust is one thing, but be sure to have adequate fresh air intake as well.

Good point, but it's why I got the heater with an automatic shutoff if the oxygen gets too low!
pedromendes Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 Just got in from a very successful smoke in the shack with my full set up! Started off by letting the heater run on high for 20 minutes (it's just above 0 tonight). When I went in, it was really warm in there. Then I turned my fan on, on low and turned the heat down to low. The fan was spectacular - the smoke was moving nicely and the air stayed fresh and clean for all 90 minutes (I watched a soccer game on my iPad). After 30 minutes I turned the heat back up to high to maintain a very comfortable temperature - I was in a tshirt and hoody. We'll see how it goes when it's proper cold out there but for now, I'm stoked!!! And I enjoyed an absolutely spectacular Party P2 - I am growing to LOVE these cigars.

Good for you, glad it worked out ! I talked about your setup to my wife to see if I could do that next winter...that's the look she gave me : At least it wasn't no...
Cigarjunkie Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Absolutely fabulous! I got a similar setup at 2mx2m with a halogenic heater. Easy, safe and under $150. It fits 4 people, a coffeetable full of booze, some chow and a small ashtray . Thats enough in my book. Have fun with your setup!
jacktarnold Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I can't believe that I haven't thought about this before. This is the best idea in the world for us who can't smoke indoors when it is cold out. I'm definitely going to be putting this on my list of must dos for next winter.
pedromendes Posted March 28, 2012 Author Posted March 28, 2012 Recent posts reminded me I should put up an end-of-season update on the shack... I decided to take it down a few weeks ago with the weather starting to look a bit better, and because I was getting tired of smoking in there. It was a great option and loved having people over when it would have been impossible to smoke outside, but I have to admit that I was tired of my clothes stinking and even that smell of stale smoke in the tent. That said, the tent held up perfectly - no damage and except for a bit of fading on the sun side, it looks just like it did when I put it up. Then again, it was a mild winter, so we'll see how it does next year. For now, I am enjoying smoking outside again!

For now, I am enjoying smoking outside again! I hear you. As much as I enjoyed going to Montreal for the Winter herf and smoking indoors at their LCDH I too hated the residual odors when done. I had to leave my "herf shirt" behind as it was most likely going to smell of stale smoke. Plus it had a small rip on the left elbow. With the summer upon us, outdoor smoking is far more enjoyable and easier on the wardrobe. Nonetheless, I shall return to Montreal next Winter along with a "smoking smock"
maverickdrinker Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 pick up some smoke eater spray from home depot. i use it in the garage and it kills everything. you wouldn"t know i smoke cigars in there.
