I usually have a glass of Cognac or Rum in hand simply due to the climate and company in which I often find myself smoking; however, I agree that a good glass of champagne, amontillado or oloroso sherry are more complimentary. Personally I find most Scotch Whisky to be an ill-fated companion to a good cigar, each bringing out the worst in the other in my opinion; however I find a smooth Kentucky Bourbon with a little age to be quite complimentary. PS-- We REALLY have to talk Burgundy some time :-)
