cottierm Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Dear all, Does anyone among you have a R&J Clemenceau in his/her collection that s/he would be willing to smoke and review for this site? The reason I am asking that is that I had a few in the early 90's and since then this cigar has always stood at the top of my CC smoking experience. However, was it as good as I remember or not, and how has it changed with aging, these are my questions. Best, Michel

Best, Michel Dear Michel, I would be more than willing to meet your wish, but they have been discontinued 30 years ago, might be difficult to say the least.... Mitchell Orchant or MNR perhaps? Good luck, Alex
cottierm Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Dear Alex, No, not '30 years ago' but 22 and counting! Thank God, when I read your reply, I started to puzzle about my own geriatric age! Happy now to discover than I am still 8 years younger than you suggested! That said, I posted this message in reference to Guy's review of the H.Upmann Amatista, hoping that some members would share some of their views on old aged CC in general. One never know what kind of treasures some of our FOH fellows may have hoarded. Best, Michel Dear Michel, I would be more than willing to meet your wish, but they have been discontinued 30 years ago, might be difficult to say the least.... Mitchell Orchant or MNR perhaps? cottierm Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Yep, I've also seen that. I've always read that it was an exceptional cigar already difficult to find when it was still produced. Seems to indicate that a) I was lucky to find a few of them at the time, and I had already developed some good taste at a younger age (a comforting thought, since I had sometimes believed that, excuse my French, 'j'avais un goût de chiottes' in the 90's). Best, Michel There is a box of these going up for auction soon. Anticipated winning bid is quite high.

But then again, live life to its fullest, if you have the coin, good luck with the auction! Cheers, Alex

Best, Michel Hi Michel, A while ago I had the chance to get my hands on a 50 count Jar of H.Upmann Crystales from around 1941 to 1946. I sold the Jar to a good friend who bought off 35 cigars, 10 cigars that went off for a trade and 5 cigars that I kept. Here is a link to the review that I posted in 2010. http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=103039 I'm not really a collector of old cigars, it just happened to show up and I grabed them. I'm convinced today that vintage cigars are like vintage wines, It depends on many factors concerning , what brand, the year that the leaves were harvested, good or great years, (yes, it also exists in tobacco as in wines), the region etc: etc: etc: PLUS and maybe the most important, how were they kept and under what conditions. Today collecting vintage cigars is an expensive hobby and is just as difficult as dealing and speculating on the stock market. Here's a few pics. of the Jar when I received it.
