cckandb24 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Writing this from my local B&m here in the states on my smartphone so can't get pics attached. Intial thought: I love the size of this stick. Love the length and ring gauge. Smell at cold is sweet tobacco and leather. I clip the cap and am introduced to a perfect draw. Construction is flawless and wrapper is blemish-less. I really love the quality of Upmanns. FIrst third: Quite bitter, maybe a dark chocolate bitterness, Light leather. This is the last of my three pack and had been resting for about 6 weeks. The first two where creamy all the way through. Second third: Dark grey ash and a more consistent burn now. Bitterness phasing out and now getting that creamy tobacco that coats the palate with dark chocolate and nutmeg. Dense smoke rolling and ash hold on easily for 2 inches Final third: This thing finishes on good note. The draw firm up a bit making me fight it a little harder but still getting that creamy, dark chocolate, no spice. Nice and mild. Just a good solid smoke early in the morning or afternoon with a good cup of joe Score 88 I really want to try the big brother the Mag 50, I have heard nothing but good thing. Need an HQ box from th Czar
Colt45 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 I'm a fan of the 46, with the corona gorda being one of my favorite sizes (I sometimes wonder why this wasn't the size they used for "short churchills"). I find them to be on the dark coffee side versus cream, flavor-wise. It's also one of the cigars I've found to need time in the humidor - at least that was the case for the '05 box I'm almost done with. Thanks for the notes.
Habanos2000 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 I just broke into my 2nd box of PSP 08 Mag 46's and they are just absolutely dynamite! Full of flavor, spice, pepper, espresso and dry aged prime rib. Hands down, my favorite go to cigar at the moment. Mag 50's are great too, I've not found them to have the depth of flavor my 46's have, but a good solid smoke as well. I'm very impressed by the quality of the Upmann line.
TonyV Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Its reviews like these that prompted me to order a box form the czar.Usually i seldom smoke cigars ROTT but i believe i will give it a go with the Mag 46. when they arrive.
Len Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I can't remember a bad 46 i've had in the years i've smoke them. They are a favorite of mine, but the 50? I've had more bad ones then good ones. IMO the RG requires the 50 to have more aging time. Mag 46=Perfect smoke.
kmagurk Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 nice review, I'm also a big fan of the Upmann line
Ginseng Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Thanks for the review. The Mag46 is an absolute fave of mine. I liken it to the iron man, the Lou Gehrig of Habanos. Never lets you down. Wilkey
