CanuckSARTech Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 No real reason for me, other than cigar nakedness, but I leave the band on until I'm into the last third.
BlueClaw Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 i suppose it depends on the mood i am in.. sometime before I light up, sometimes at the halfway mark.. however, as one of the other posters wrote, when in a more public setting where there are lots of people i'll generally remove the band prior to lighting as not to be a show-off if i'm puffing a Monte #2 or Upmann or Partagas (all of which will be a CC)..
Habanos2000 Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I leave the band on and don't consider that flaunting. If the cigar is that good, I take it off before it burns. If it's not a nubber, it stays with the cigar until the end.
kmagurk Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 i have to much trouble taking it off so I just smoke'um . Fonseca band's really add to the flavor
Ghabanos Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 band off looks sexy.... if I can get it off early I may I may not....just depends on mood
jazzbass Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I will only remove the band if I'm embarrassed with what I'm smoking.. because...... If a gentleman has concerns about flaunting a cigar band then : Does he remove the insignia from the hood of his car?? Scrape off the name stamped on his golf ball?? Always remove the label on a beer bottle?? Put a paper bag over the head of his beautiful wife when walking together in the park??
android Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 If it's loose I just take it off...if not I'll wait till she warms up a bit.
rsanz Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 i have to much trouble taking it off so I just smoke'um . Fonseca band's really add to the flavor Ha Ha! I leave them on at the start and remove before they become part of the flavour profile. One reason I leave them on is because I've seen one too many instances of a mate removing the band, cutting and then absently mindedly lighting the wrong end. Talk about laugh Trev!
Colt45 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Like many others, I remove it when the mood strikes. As to the etiquette, I think it would be a breach of etiquette for me to... tell someone how to cut their cigar how to light their cigar what to light their cigar with what kind of lighter or fuel to use how often to ash their cigar if someone is close enough to me to really get a good look at the band of my cigar, they're way too close. Some may look at these things as respect for the cigar. I can't help but view it as snobbery.

That said, I do enjoy it when my Mrs. plays dress-up every now and again!
