jjdolphin Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Well...might not be the biggest emergency every, but a few of my CC are wet. Water entered one of my boxes soaking part of it. Luckily that part of the humidor held only 5-6 cigars, but my question is how do I dry them. Do I take them out and leave them to air dry or do I just leave them in another humidor to dry out that way? How long will it take them to dry and is there any long term damage? These were some singles I bought to try out so I would not like to lose them.
Squarehead Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Do you have an empty cigarbox? Then put them in there.Don't just let them to dry out to fast in open air.
Puros Y Vino Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I had this happen to me..sort of.(overhumidified) Leave them out in the open for about 6-8 hours to get the majority of the water out..then leave them in an empty cigarbox for a few days. Check them at least once a day. Look for signs of mold and smell them to see if they smell "off". Dry them out to the point where they pass the pinch test then reintroduce them to the humi. With direct water, they will show stains..but they will be smokeable... Good luck
jjdolphin Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 I do see the stains on them. That definitely will not bother me as long as they taste good. I placed them in a dry humidor over night. I'll take them out and put them in a cigar box for the next several hours. All of them are wet in the middle and relatively dry on the ends. It just happens that was the way the water pooled.

Try to stand them up then. If the water pooled in the middle..let gravity work its way down. Otherwise the water is going to go through the wrapper and possibly puff it up.
kmagurk Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 do yo think dry 65RH beads in the dry box would help take up some of the water ?
anacostiakat Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 A few years ago I had a collection unit fail and it leaked some water onto a couple of boxes. I replaced the collection unit with a new one and wiped everything off and moved the boxes to a spot alone to dry out. Left them alone. They did dry out and smoked just fine. Actually I think I still have one box with a few stick still in it. The bands are a little stained but otherwise the cigars are fine.
