WyldKnyght Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Hello, I'm new to this forum, I live in Canada, and I'd like to say hi to everyone. My family and I are going to Holguin Cuba this December and I've searched every site possible and have a list of Cigar stores in the vicinity of our Resort, and have found about half a dozen I will be checking out. I'm looking for advice from someone who has been there before. I've read a lot here and on the web that the best thing to buy are custom rolled cigars in Cuba and would like to know what I should be looking for in a custom rolled cigar, I'm not looking for any online stores or anything illegal. I've read articles on how to watch out for fake cigars, and wondering how this applies to custom rolled cigars Thank You
Puros Y Vino Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Welcome to FOH. Read around the forums, you'll find some recommended stores to visit in Cuba. I'm sure some folks will respond directly here too. As for custom rolls, I think you can get them at the Partagas and Romeo Y Julieta factory stores. Where in Canada are you from? Right there are a few rollers making the rounds. Right now, Hamlet is in Canada up to the end of October. Have a great trip. Be careful of fakes in Cuba, there are plenty.

Thanks Bundwallah, I'm in Northern Ontario, about 7hrs North of Toronto. Yeah in the boonies, so I won't be close to any rollers until I hit the island. Yeah I've been reading up on fakes, I'll stick to the official stores to buy the Name Brands, but I'd love to try a custom and see what the hype is about.
mazolaman Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 That's the key, only buy from straight up designated shops, whatever you buy.

So you can buy custom rolled Cigars at the official stores then? If so that makes my job easier, I read one post about I guy meeting a farmer in a storm LOL
CUBANO Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I'm from Holguin and the place to buy Cuban cigars is La Flor de Holguin. This is an authorized Habanos store.
Smokin_Safari Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Your other option is get to Gaudalavaca (where i'm guessing you're heading as there is nothing to do in Holguin (except visit Buro de Mayabe!!) - Habanos store in town before the resorts.
maverickdrinker Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Your other alternative is to have someone from Toronto pick up a few Hamlet custom rolls for you as he is in Toronto for the next couple of months.
WyldKnyght Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Thanks for the replies, I'll be going to both Holguin and Guardalavaca, I'll be there for 14 days so hopefully I'll find something, if not regular Cuban premiums will have to do LOL
tempbond Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 If you want an idea of prices in Cuba, check out my buddy's blog : yulcigars.blogspot.com
