Hey everyone,

There is a possibility that I might be able to get to Andorra sometime in the next few months out here in Med......so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with cigars in that tiny country and can lend me some advice as to where to go and what I can find!

I have found a couple of websites but I'd like to hear from people that have actually been!

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

Cheers! :cap:

Hi Chris

I have been to Andorra a couple of times. Cigars, cigarettes and alcohol are everywhere - there are no taxes levied in Andorra so its cheap. However, its also not a part of the EU so the quantities you can purchase are very limited. The last time I drove through the car was extensively searched on crossing into France.

Personally I would not make the trip in Summer - if you go in winter there is amazing skiing available, but in Summer its just tax free shopping and overpriced hotels and restaurants. Cigars are so cheap in Spain anyway that I cant think what you would be able to buy that would justify the journey.

I would disagree to an extent with the above.

Lots of cigars at very cheap prices(good quality at that).

yes, they are pretty thorough at searching,at least on the French side.

Worth going in summer,if you also like a walk,as this is high in the Pyrenees, you are surrounded by some beautiful high mountain scenery, and plenty of summer sport if you're into that.

Lots of pilgrimage paths to walk.

This is one of Europe's most remote areas, and well worth a visit any time.

We stayed near Amelie le baines,which was pretty,hired a car,explored and hiked.lovely.

Not disputing the Pyrenees as a holiday destination at all. Used to go camping with the wife every year to Ax les Thermes on the French side or Puigcerda on the Spanish side.

And agree that there is good selection, its just a long journey for a couple of boxes! Any more and you will pay duty crossing the border. Ask me how I know :)

Know what you mean....I was not in this greedy-hoarding-cigar stage when we went,so a couple of boxes was enough.

Still remember the thorough going over the French police were giving cars as they came through, you're right,I don't think you'd get away with much!Don't know about the Spanish side...

Agreed regarding Andorra itself, great for skiing and duty free, but other than that,it only exists as a tax haven, they always have an odd monetary feel to them those places.....we just came and went..on to somewhere scenic.

If you do go to that region, try a bit of wild boar...fantastic.

I've been to Andorra several times. The prices aren't THAT interesting anymore, but they're are real treasures to find in

• LCDH in Andorra la Vella (the capital city)

• Cigarshop in Andorra la Vella

• Cigarshop in Pas de la Case (a ski resort/shopping mall at the french border)

Plus: huge choice of liquors (hundreds of single malt) here http://www.cavabenitowhisky.com/

Prices on perfumery are very interesting (this is the argument for the spouse/fiancée/girlfriend)

Andorra,

easy to avoid the checks - stay in a hotel close by on either the french or the spanish side, the closest to the border the better, drive up to Andorra, do your shopping a few times a day and bring the boxes back to your hotel ( remember 3 boxes or 75 cigars max per trip. ) and you are OK.

The stuff to be found there is mindboggling and the prices are very good.

Nino, that is exactly the strategy me and my pals used last Easter. The limitation finally was the weight allowed on the plane home! :D

I checked the website and found this humorous quote:

"Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake." - W. C. Fields

Fields' wit was ageless:

"I remember the time we were in Afghanistan. We had lost our corkscrew. We were forced to live for two weeks on nothing but food and water."

Hey Guys,

Thanks very much for the tips!

You had me sold at "Single Malt Whisky" - after seeing the list available at Cava Benito........Good God am I ever going to Andorra now!

I've also scouted a couple of stores online, and from what I can tell, the selection there is astounding, some cigars apparently available that I never thought I would see in my life - ERDM Elegantes? Partagas Petit Coronas? I'd be stupid NOT to go there for a look!

Thanks for the, shall we say, "Logistcal" tips as well, Nino - I will do exactly as you suggest! If the selection is as mindboggling as it looks, I will need multiple trips!

Whisky and Cigars aside, I was hoping to walk around and get outdoors too - so given that I will be there likely in November, if at all - Hopefully it should not be too cold and snowy/wet!

I will look for wild Boar!

Thanks again, all! If anyone has any further advice, please feel free to drop me a line! Much obliged! :)

Do not count on the web pages to be up to date, but you can still expect to find some good stuff you won't find anywhere else.
