mazolaman Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 Yep, unless you have a Northern Hemisphere team vs a Southern Hemisphere team for the final you are already out of the tipping comp. Quarter Finals 08/10 - Ireland v Wales 08/10 - England v France 09/10 - South Africa v Australia 09/10 - New Zealand v Argentina Wouldn't mind seeing Ireland and Australia meeting again in the final. Yeah, that was a cracking game, though Australia seem to have injury worries, as do NZ with no Dan Carter,English players will all be in jail soon,it seems,I still think SA are marching on ominously.....
riazp Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 England V France...iF england does not do better than they did in the group stage, France will win this one.
rckymtn22 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 A couple of surprises in the first round of quarter finals! I am sure looking back at the game Ireland wishes they had taken the penalty points when they had a chance. Did not get to see the Eng-Fra game too late/early in the morning. Tonight could be very interesting.

riazp Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Well England Lost as I predicted...not happy about it, but it was an overall very poor world cup for them. But I did have France to be in the final in the FoH Tipping comp that Smithy organised, so i'm one step closer to winning this thing!
mazolaman Posted October 9, 2011 Author Posted October 9, 2011 Yep,we were pretty poor, but France also played well. Harassing the back line, giving us no time to play. But,we never really turned up for this tournament I'm afraid. What do I know?I expected an Ireland v England semi......
Bill Hayes Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Brilliant composure by James O'Connor. Now we see if the Kiwis will choke once again against the Argi's or create a cracker match-up next against the Wallabies.

Now we see if the Kiwis will choke once again against the Argi's or create a cracker match-up next against the Wallabies. Yep,a good win for Australia. It's turning into a rough, hard fought world cup, genuinely surprised that SA were out muscled. Any Argentina game will be hard fought. All teams who played badly to start are now coming good.
sv_ontour Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Bring it on.....it's going to be pretty sweet to knock you out on your own soil.
El Presidente Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Wales look like the favourites right now Great to see the Scarlets playing some blistering tough rugby The Wallabies were atrocious...brave but clueless. How we beat the Seth Efrikans is beyond the comprehension of any Rugby follower. Pocock and God I suspect. The All Blacks.... The lump in the throat is rising! Inept without Carter on that performance. France.... Always a beautiful thing to see the English go home. The French normally bring one bullet to a world cup tournament and one suspects they have just fired it. So All Blacks/Wallabies this weekend.....The Wallabies are a mess but I suspect the Blacks are not much better. Will the home crowd get the Blacks home or will the weight of a countries expectation bury them. Can't wait
dicko Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Will the home crowd get the Blacks home or will the weight of a countries expectation bury them. Can't wait ch..ch...ch..chhhooo
riazp Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Glad the aussies pulled this one off, one step closer to the aus v fra final I predicted for the tipping comp...so guess who i'm rooting for in the finals
laficion Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 WHAT !!!!! the french boys are still there ?? Come on guys, we've been expecting you for dinner a week ago, you could at least let us know that you're still outside playing ball !!!! Well ok but don't come in too late then, we'll keep the plats warm for a late dinner. Have fun and ....... Yes............. don't come in too dirty
rckymtn22 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Aus are lucky the SA kept having major cases of fumblitis every time they got close to the Aussie end. The Aussies should be heading home on Ken's favourite airline right about now!
ARRV Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Once again Australia shows that they really don't have any answer to the power game (except tackle and Pocock) or rather they can't match the physicality of SA - mind you maybe they just did - who knows - cracking game - I was jumping around the house like a crazed fool every time we scored - and again at full time. Fortunately the remaining teams in tournament don't play a power game so things are looking up. Wales played very well - basically how Australia wanted to play - ie tackle yourself to death but also make sure your passes stick. next week should be great.
frenchkiwi Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 The French normally bring one bullet to a world cup tournament and one suspects they have just fired it. So All Blacks/Wallabies this weekend..... WHAT !!!!! the french boys are still there ?? oui ... a mort les rosbifs... Perfide Albion rentre chez toi!... a team that was playing marginally better than the 2007 English squad (which is to say - not well at all) reaped the rewards of their stuttering efforts (unlike in 2007). Foden Ashton Cueto: all confident (but not quite world-beating) players ball in hand who rarely got put into space even against the minnows. Time to sack that coach methinks. Et les Bleus... le baroud d'honneur as we say... now that they have salvaged a little bit of pride can they actually find some motivation to take them past a well-drilled, well-structured Wales? Probably not, but Dusautoir put things into perspective when he said this was no Cardiff '07, they didn't beat a great side, and they will have achieved nothing if they don't get through to the final. If they can find 80mn of passion with a bit of yet-to-be-seen structure, and adopt Dusautoir's steely attitude... qui sait? I dare to dream. Now if only we could hear a good crowd rendition of Bread of Heaven before kickoff! (instead of the crappy music they pump out of the sound systems - apologies to the world - mainstream NZ has no culture).
mazolaman Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Rarely have I seen a team deserve a win less than Australia. We,however got our just deserts, not sure about the "sack the manager" stuff, although we were tactically naive. I think the Kiwis played pretty well against a tough Argentine side. One of the most moving things I've seen in sport recently was the retiring Argentine player in tears as he left the field, demonstrating a level of pride in playing for his country, that I don't see in other teams,or other sports.

It's an interesting day when Roncero, the great Mario Ledesma (who had a stellar tournament at ... 38), and Mils Muliaina all leave the field in tears. Mario ranks up there in the pantheon with Os du Randt as great ever-young front rowers methinks. And Argentina once again brought one of the best forward packs in the tournament. Pity Hernandez wasn't there to unleash the backs.
riazp Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 so France is off to the finals. I was going through the wc tipping comp that smithy is hosting, and i'm the only one to have france and aus in the finals...I think two others had france v nz...
mazolaman Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 Well,it's not often you'll here an Englishman consoling a Welshman, but even I felt the injustice of another crap refs decision in the world cup. It definitely lost the game for them, and was worthy of a yellow at worst....
