ptrthgr8 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Aside from my passion for good cigars, good booze, and good hockey, I'm also an avid gun collector/enthusiast. I hope this is an appropriate post/topic for this forum... but I do love my passions! Lots of my collection is photographed here: http://public.fotki.com/ptrthgr8/ Anyone else out there in FOH land also a collector/enthusiast? Cheers, ~ Greg ~
mkz Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Anyone else out there in FOH land also a collector/enthusiast? I know that Ken is a huge fan of all sorts of guns.
PigFish Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Well mate, it depends on who you ask. Some of our mates are very antigun, while others, like myself are very interested in them for sport, hobby, defense and even political reasons. I say talk guns freely if you like, but keep the political aspect of them to a minimum out of respect for those who are sensitive about them. -Piggy
ptrthgr8 Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 .. but keep the political aspect of them to a minimum out of respect for those who are sensitive about them. Absolutely. It's about the passion - not the politics in very much the same way we enjoy our stogies. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
BobKincaid Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I'm sort of an anomaly: a gun-ownin'/appreciatin'/enjoyin' American liberal. I agree with Ray that maintaining respect for the sensitivities of others is the heart and soul of the good fellowship and camraderie that makes FOH such a pleasant experience. Living in Appalachia, we have a long-standing relationship with our firearms. While no longer a collector (sold most all of 'em off when the kids were little), I still maintain a pistol and a shotgun. The former is a S&W .45 and the latter a Remington 12 gauge riot gun. Both are, admittedly, defense-oriented, but the 12-gauge is nice in the field for rabbits, too.
coneatty Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Greg, welcome to the forum. I checked out your link. That is one impressive collection! I am totally jealous. I guess I would be considered a novice gun enthusiast....certainly not in your league. Aside from my "shooters" I do have a couple of safe queens you might recognize...my favorites are a mint '67 Colt Python, a couple of S&W 29s an FAL 50.42 (HB) and my absolute favorite, a pristine, in the box G-Series that is on the amnesty list. There is no rhyme or reason to my collection. These were acquired over time, when I had the $ and the spirit moved me. The safe is almost full, so I can now get back to spending what little $ I have left on cigars!
DaniloSilni Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Very nice indeed and i love that you are organized on that page! I have a huge collection as well and love it.
KarlJ Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Nice Collection!! I live in Illinois, the only damn state in the union that the average law abiding citizen can't carry their loaded firearm on their person. Maybe one day well join the rest of the country?
Lastroll Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I’m not a huge collector but I’ve accumulated about 40 or so guns over the years. My passion is hunting. I hunt just about everything that tastes good. I also do a lot of archery hunting (the season opened last Sat so I’ve been busy). About 70% of the meat my family and I eat is wild game. I have around 20 shotguns, 12 long rifles and 8 handguns. Everything from .22’s to 50 caliber. Enjoying nature without my deer rifle is unknown to me. LOL
tuff Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Funny, of all the absolutely amazing collection you have, I love the sweet little 410 shotgun the best. My uncle had a 10 gauge that looked really similar and it was a beast. Of course the .50 cal is impressive and I would sure like to try taking a shot with that (or maybe not) Tuff
Rogers72 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I used to have quite a collection but have downsized seriously in the last few years. I used to hunt a lot but have pretty much given that up and just shoot now. I completely lost the urge to kill stuff a few years ago. I enjoy Sporting Clays and ***** as well as shooting handguns. My collection now consist mostly of heirloom stuff plus a few others.
ptrthgr8 Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 ...and I would sure like to try taking a shot with that (or maybe not) The felt recoil of the Ferret50 is really no worse than a 12G shotgun... unless you remove the muzzle brake. Then it becomes a beast. Here are some videos: Me shooting the 50 cal with the brake: My friend shooting the 50 cal without the brake - and, yeah, he slightly scoped himself: That's why we only fire it with the brake installed now. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
thechenman Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 FYI...when I click on the video I get the following message: "An error occurred, please try again later." First pictures, now this...it just isn't my day.

77stoneblues Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Great videos! Once upon a time I had a group of friends who all had various guns, and I loved going to the range or gun club with them and firing some rounds. Nothing near as fun as that thing though!
CanuckSARTech Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 I figure this is as good a thread as any to post this question... Any fellow gun enthusiasts on here live in the general Las Vegas area of the U.S.? I'm looking into taking some firearm courses potentially with a company called "Front Sight". With my new job and whatnot, I'm looking at getting into IPSC shooting and such. I'm just in the process of ordering a Springfield Armoury XDm .40 in bi-tone stainless-steel and black. So, even though I'll get proficient shooting and courses through my job training, I want to get everything additional I can - my handgun skills, IMO, come down to being the most life-and-death-critical aspects of my job. I don't want to screw up, one way or another. So, I want to load up on additional training, to get that extra leg up, even before my actual job training really starts to kick in. Well, I was doing some homework about courses, and being in Canada and having firearms courses be kind of few and far and lackluster, I've been doing my homework on some U.S. offerings, and this "Front Sight" company out of Nevada seems to be pretty interesting. I've read about a few other names being bandied about for different training companies also. I'd prefer something that's closer to me, relative to the Michigan area, but I'm willing to make arrangements to travel to Nevada or Texas for good enough training. Anybody, any thoughts or feedback??? PM me if needed, but posts on here may help out fellow FOH'ers potentially too, I guess. Thanks for any and all help.
brazoseagle Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 I am an avid gun collector and user. Looking to pick up an additional Winchester 9410 lever action .410. If anybody wants to sell one or sees one at their local shop PM me!
ptrthgr8 Posted September 11, 2011 Author Posted September 11, 2011 ...and this "Front Sight" company out of Nevada seems to be pretty interesting... Several folks at work have taken Front Sight classes/courses and all have had very positive reviews. It's similar in purpose and classes to the late Jeff Cooper's Gunsite Academy. If I were going to take any professional courses, I would go to one of those two sources. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
brazoseagle Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I love all things guns, been collecting for years! Here is my baby "The Belt of Eternal Reckoning"
ptrthgr8 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 I love all things guns, been collecting for years! Here is my baby Very nice! I only have one "cowboy" revolver... It's only a Ruger Vaquero Bisley. Not exactly a true cowboy gun, but I like it. ~ Greg ~
PuffDaddie Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I also love guns and have a conceal hangun permit. I carry a Glock.23, 40Cal.

ptrthgr8 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 I had to go with .45 LC for mine... wanted it to be more cowboyish, I guess. ~ Greg ~
ptrthgr8 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 I also love guns and have a conceal hangun permit. I carry a Glock.23, 40Cal. My normal carry piece is an HK USP Compact in 9mm. I just picked up a Ruger LC9 for the warmer months, but since it's almost winter time here in North Dakota I guess I won't be carrying that little pistol until next year. ~ Greg ~
