I am seeking advice from the members. I am relocating from Chicago to Atlanta and I am not sure how to store my cigars in the transition. I have a cabinet humidor that will be going on the moving truck with a 2-10 day delivery window (unreal but oh well). I have 25-30 boxes of cigars and 3-4 drawers of singles that I intend to transport with me to ensure their safety.

My questions.....How should I store/pack the cigars for the move? Assuming the worst and the moving truck doesn't show up for 10 days what can I do to keep the cigars at respectable humidity levels to not cause long-term damage?

Me personally? I'd take the cigars with me myself in a personal vehicle packed up into two decent sized coolers, to help with temperature and humidity fluctuations.

If you driving a personal vehicle isn't an option, I'd still do the same by packing them into coolers. But, I would add a crap load of packing peanuts or something similar to the inside of the coolers to fill up the empty airspace (to better help absorb any temperature fluctuations), and just tape up the coolers really well and pack them up into the moving truck. If you want, put in a digital hygrometer into each cooler, with teh memory reset, to let you see the max. and min. temps and RH.

Just make sure to let your cigars sit and balance out for half a month to a month or so following your move, depending on temperature spikes and timelines.

The cooler solution is the best option in my book. Based on their current storage conditions the temperature would be more important to me than the humidity. I don't think you have much to worry about if your cigars sit in a temperature controlled environment for a week. If you are really worried about humidity as well buy a bunch of boveda packs and you should be just fine.

That's what I did, only it was a bit more than two. But the principle remains the same. The rest of the advice is sound as well.

The cigars are not likely to suffer too badly from short excursions into warmth. You might consider doing the freezing thing afterward though.

X4 on the coolers. Don't send the cigars with the delivery truck :)

I recently began experimenting with my storage ... I keep my cigars in a Vinotemp at 69F/63RH for long term storage. But, I just recently started taking a few sticks out and putting them in my desktop humi which stays around 80F/70RH for a few days before smoking. The difference is astounding ... the cigars burn better, taste better, and I have an overall better smoking experience. Just finishing off a Boli PC that is the best I've had in a while. Guess the point I'm making is, short term higher temp will not harm your cigars, in my experience.

Hi all

I will x5 on the cooler option ,I mean you can almost not trust some removalist with your furniture let alone your treasured Cigars 

Agree on the cooler route.

On my last big move, I kept my cigars in coolers shoved into the cab of the truck with me, sitting shotgun. Even seatbelted them in.

Did not want to entrust them to severe temp/RH spikes that would probably ensue with the moving co. All was well.
