it is indeed a sad day for the Toronto LCDH patrons and staff, i was there on Saturday and was informed i could no longer have any food or drink at all on the patio and if i wanted anything i would have to have it inside of the store. from what i was told an inspector came into the store and told them that no food or drink was allowed on the patio not even from outside vendors, and that the inspector apparently saw an individual light their cigar inside of the store. I would think that the new restrictions are as a result of this or that the inspector was having a bad day. I its sad that the Ontario Government has yet again told us we can not do something it was first no smoking in side then smoking in specially enclosed and ventilated rooms & finally not at all and now this whats next the banning of smoking completely. I think that we need to do something about this the US has CRA (cigar rights of America) I think we need to create our own version of this movement in Canada and even in the provinces

At Chez Tabac on Avenue rd it is known that cigar smoking is not allowed in the store, period, but we smoke on the patio. Marty does offer us Espresso and we go next store and get a drink at the variety store. It would never occur to us that we could not eat or drink, play cards, discuss solving the problems of the world etc, outside while smoking wonderful cigars.

Cheers,

CB

If I remember correctly I think the salesperson was mentioning something about SB bitching about smoking cigars and drinking coffee while we(Aaron,Tom,Frank and myself)were sitting outside on Aug.8/11.Twice a yahoo from SB walked by and offering samples of something sweet but nobody took up his offerings. It is very sad if you have to live your life by that 18th century mentality.Don't piss in my pool,as I don't swim in your toilet.

As we all know the anti-smoking zealots will say anything, including lie, to get what they want because governments and society accept what they are saying blindly. It is our responsibility to stand up to these zealots with facts and the law. We all know that smoking inside a cigar store is much better for non-smokers than forcing us outside to smoke amongst the general public. We all know it makes no sense that a store would be prohibited from allowing their patrons to bring their own food or drink to a cigar store. Unless the law specifically states that no retail establishment may offer (for free) food or drink to patrons without a specific license or allow patrons to bring their own -- they are overstepping their authority. And like with anti-tobacco zealots, if we do not question the authority of inspectors like the one in Toronto and force them to prove their case they will continue to walk all over us.

It reminds me of the fiscal inspectors that roam up and down Quinta Avenida looking for reasons to extort money from hard working entrepreneurs.
