cigarmonologues Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Interesting. I think it's probably best that I stick to places I've been lucky enough to visit... London is somewhere that I would love to live, but maybe not forever (someone did once say that it's no good living in London on anything less than £100k, you just can't enjoy yourself otherwise). First choice of the other contenders would be Vancouver without a shadow of a doubt. Second choice would be more difficult, but probably somewhere along the French Riviera (Monaco or Antibes would probably be first choice). There's something in common between these two choices - they're both on the coast, and they're both within a couple of hours of excellent ski resorts. In fact in Vancouver I think I managed a time of less than an hour between leaving my Downtown hotel and being in a lift ascending Grouse Mountain - now, what's not to like about that!?

You must have stopped for something to eat on the way! Travel time is c. 20 minutes from downtown Van to Grouse outside of rush hour, and then 15 minutes to queue / ride the gondola. And it is a great place to live for all those who mentioned it - moved here from the UK 4 years ago and never looked back So, in response to the question, I would move to Victoria BC (also a lovely city, if quiet off peak season), just so that I could have the pleasure of moving back to Vancouver after the Summer.
First Lady Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Who will be the village idiot??? Pretty simple answer to that but I am not one to name names LOLOL
cigarmonologues Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 You must have stopped for something to eat on the way! Travel time is c. 20 minutes from downtown Van to Grouse outside of rush hourI should clarify that I was using public transport - which must at least double the time wherever you are in the world. I do envy you... I first visited about 13 years ago, and I've tried to come up with an excuse for at least a visit or two each year since (usually some skiing up in Whistler followed by a couple of days in the city to meet some relatives who live in North Vancouver). One of these days they're going to stop me and ask if I'm trafficking something!
mykeuva Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 A place in the nevada desert, with a pool that has a great view of the Vegas strip at night.... Other place would be Seattle, lovely city.

I actually enjoyed my time in Detroit but everyone else gives it a bad rap. Logically then I would be happy anywhere in the USA - there are still places the nanny state has not got such a hold as it has in Australia. I would also nominate somewhere in Thailand as the people are so good there (and good freedom to smoke)
Deemancpa Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Since my days of commuting between Nassau and Miami...I would pick one of the Out Islands of the Bahamas like: Abaco, Cat Island, Acklins, Crooked, Exuma and Eleuthera. Golf, fishing, and relaxing. Just goggle any one of the islands listed......amazing! Second choice: St Martin-----a tale of two cultures: French and Dutch
Chaki Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I live in Hong Kong and I can travel easily to nice places like Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam or Indonesia. But to live? Maybe a place out of left field like Beirut, Lebanon: great cigar culture, good food, beautiful ladies, the mountain & the sea, and always good weather!
dizedean Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Haven't been to many places.. But a couple places I have had a lot of fun.. Hong Kong Cuzco, Peru But I could probably live in Sydney, I had a great time there and enjoyed the people and the city. DSS
Orion21 Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 #1 Paris #2 San Francisco (Bay Area) Really easy choices Paris for the food and lifestyle and San Francisco (Bay Area) for the weather and culture.
