Ghabanos Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 purchased Jun 22 2011 Picture courtesy of Smithy Humi is at 67% +-2% No torch, so I used some wood slivers to light the stick Construction: Nice; Veiny; But cracks Light sheen of oil At cold nuts pistachio - very impressed; I liked this alot Draw is good some restriction Opening: harshness Draw tightens - not to my liking Dark coffee 1/3 Harsh Nice burn Coffee but less than opening Unlike big brother Genios (maybe my expectation was too high) Draw tighter than I prefer but not problematic 2/3 Harshness still there Beautiful color ash Darker stronger coffee 3/3 Disappointed, albeit probably because young harshness a bit in your face Beautiful ash and burn Lighter coffee Spice kicks in starting at the front of tongue moving to the back Bit of strength kicks in Rating: 82 - hopefully some time will do it some good... yet to try the magicos (box sitting with lisa - the gatekeeper of all - in the humi) Appearance: 11 - few cracks but nice Flavor: 19 I liked the coffee and how it developed some spice at the end, which was a welcomed change for me Smoke Charac: 23 great burn and pleasant to smoke not hot at all Overall: 29 not impressed, but maybe because the Genios set the bar high and also the draw at cold present pistachio, like as if I downed a whole bag in my mouth... high expectations maybe... there was harshness probably because it was young Not terribly fond of the size to be honest. but good for a short smoke... One thing that I didn't really like - which doesn't affect the smoke was that there was too much glue on the band. I just wasn't able to get it off without thrashing it into pieces....

Shame about the negatives you got, the secretos is probably my favourite of the maduro 5 line, luckily I've not had any bad ones to date but to be honest I normally grab one when I want a bit of harsh/angry smoke. Kind of choosing a well done steak for a change from your usual medium-rare. So I may have had ones that are a bit too harsh in the past but being it's what I've been after I haven't complained. Maybe I should light one up when I don't fancy a well-done smoke and see how I rate it
