Has been officially endorsed that women will be joining front line units in Australia.

That doesnt mean support units it means infantry platoon level..

Only exception is the SASR and Commando battalion...

Gillard is so low in the polls she is trying anything to get a bounce in the polls.

Chicks in infantry, a carbon tax, all sorts of mad extreme left wing ****.

Geez how Australia is changing

Preface: this is totally disconnected from Aussie politics.

Women are totally capable of joining infantry platoon level assignments. Anyone who had to deal with a disgruntled ex-wife will know exactly what I mean. :pooped:

I understand that basic indoctrination will include trainees being told about the ennemies on the other side of the wire: all of them bunch of wife cheating/beating, beer swilling, farting macho pigs!!

Thinking of it... why not restrict active service to lawyers and bankers! That would make for great reality TV.

Just a bad idea. If this politician wants to put these women in danger of not only being killed, but raped and mistreated in captivity for the sake of politics , then I hope he/she sleeps well at night.

Just a thought... rape and mistreatment is not restricted to women.

Which begs the question: When was the last time any politician had a good night's sleep?

I say "welcome". With the amount of training that goes into what these heroes do everyday, any weaknesses in a male or female soldier that may compromise the unit will become evident long before battle. There are many women who are unfit for such positions just as there are many men who are unfit for such positions. I can assure you that, were I a terrorist, I would much prefer to meet "me" on the battlefield than my marathon running, pilates, yoga, yogalates, firearms expert wife!

I could be wrong, Canada has had front line women in our forces for a awhile now. They have been serving in Afghanistan.

Correct, one of my friends came back from Afghanistan about a month and a half ago. I can't remember if that was her first or second tour there.

A couple years back one of our federal parties decided to campaign on a carbon tax ... their leader wanted us to vote him in so he could tax us even more. Unsurprisingly he did not get elected. How anyone can think adding a tax that would essentially increase the price of everything would be a good idea is beyond me.

There should be no issue with women serving in the combat arms branches. If they can make it through the training, expect no special treatment and are aware of the perils, they should be able to serve. Many a woman I know could handle their own in combat.
