sharil Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 cracked open a 12 count box of Trini Reyes. Great looking wrappers. Found one with green spots though. Nothing major and I know they don't affect the cigars. Howver I thought the Trinidad is marketed as top draw habanos shouldn't such aesthetics flaw not permitted out of the factory? the green spotted one was even placed at the top. Other than that it has not rained for 3 days here at where I'm at and at one time temperatures was at 40 deg C. It's raining now. I'm putting the kettle on, make some tea ang light that green spotted one. bad cigar baddd cigar.
Fuzz Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 If I recall correctly, the green spots are caused by water drops on the leaf during curing. I've found them on all brands (Cohibas, Montes, Trinis, RyJ, etc). No matter what brand you choose, you're never going to find an abosultely flawless wrapper. It's just the nature of the product.

Actually fuzz...I don't think the water creates the green spots. Water actually creates Angel's Kisses which are those small white spots you sometimes find on the cigar wrapper. Not sure about the green spots, could be imperfections in the leaf, or maybe an issue during fermentation. Either way, other than aesthetics, like the Angel's Kisses, they don't affect the flavor of the cigar. At least not to my palate.
Dbone Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Ahh green spots, FROG EYES. Not really known as to how or why these occur. Somehow during the curing process extra moisture is present holding back that area to fully cure. Possibly present from crops exposed to more moisture before harvest or while in the curing barn. Good thing is I have not noticed it affecting the flavor, much like the water spots (angle kisses).
