Samuli Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Yesterday I smoked one of my favourite robustos VR Famosos from box MUE NOV 09. My first Famosos were from original release and after that I bought some in 2002 or 2003. I have noticed that this vitola benefits much from ageing and I was a little concerned opening this box just after 1,5 year. This individual cigar had good weight and it was firm to touch with quite rough and thick wrapper. I took some beverage; port wine and water and it was time to test this hermoso no. 4. Aroma at cold was quite strong tobacco, cocos and chocolate. Draw was at this point ideal. 1/3: Started with quality earthy cuban aromatic tobacco. Cocos, chocolate and hints of pepper and leather at background. Couple of first buffs draw was ideal, but soon it turned slightly tight. After first ash needed extra ligh. Medium. 2/3: Draw get tighter, but still smokable. More spice and coffee. Still very chocolate and aromatic, but the youth starting to show. Mediumfull. 3/3: Last third cigar opens up little, but draw is still quite tight. After second ash needed extra light. Spicy, leathery and at background dark chocolate. Still too young to enjoy all that this could offer. Mediumfull. Good and tasty cigar loaded with eathy Vegas Robaina taste. Still too young and imbalance. I will get back with these after another 1 year. Bigger brother Unicos is more enjoyable and ready at it´s younger years. Score: 85, but potential over 90.
ckearns Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Very nice review and photos. Thanks for putting them up.
Dbone Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Well done, great review. I am a fan of the VR Marca - deep chocolate and coffee. One of the smoothest cigars. Great pictures too
bolivr Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Sweet review, thank you, I have been considering these for some time now. Look good
ksblazer Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Nice review and Pic's as well. The Famoso was the first VR I had the opertunity to try. Love that Coffee cocoa profile they have. Not sure why the VR line aren't popular? I put them right up there with the more popular lines Montes, Boli's, Partagas and Cohibas. So buy VR's as I don't want to see them on the Habanas chopping block.
thechenman Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 On top of being a great marca with some fine cigars, I have to say, I love the band on these cigars as well. Great design.
