I've spent some time watching videos and reading up on these things this morning and boy I want so bad to set one up now! It would mean I can actually start buying boxes for the purpose of ageing!! Very nervous about making a pig's ear of it though,I'm not the most gifted in terms of DIY modifications. Is it a reasonably idiot proof project? :):D

mate, i am a moron when it comes to DIY. i have an esky'dor and it works perfect

just fill it up with heartfelt beads and cigar boxes and keep it in a cool place!!

mind you, there is some humidor genius's on this site so listen to them!!

Just get a reguler cooler, beads, and a digital hygrometer. Every few months you should leave it open over night to let the fermentation gases escape. The gases will pass threw a wood humi but not the plastic cooler. You will knew when its time to leave it open the smell becomes very strong. If you decide to get fancy just take your time, remember measure twice cut once!!!

I set mine up by throwing two pounds of beads in a 120 qt. Igloo. Done! Works fine but disorganized and some boxes on the bottom are harder to get out.

I WISH I had bought the cooler with slots built in that allow shelving to be inserted. This allows you to set the coolerdor on end so you have easier access.

Mine is disorganized,it works very well. It's an old cooler I've had for like 10 years, nothing fancy. I've got a couple NC boxes I've taken the lids off for singles! :cigar:

Hey guys thank you very much, this is very reassuring. From the sound of what you're saying it doesn't even need to as involved a process as Walt's is on the video.I guess it's not gonna cost much to give it a whirl so I'll be on the hunt for a decent size cooler from tomorrow! Thanks again my friends,

Mike

Just be prepared for your wallet to take a hit. Once you have that coolidor set up, the boxes of cigars will come rolling in and you will have filled it up in no time flat.

;) It's been dawning on me for a few days now just how expensive my cigar enthusiasm is going to get,I love it though! It's been interesting also to read,in lots of threads, just how most everyone it seems has gone through a similar process of never thinking for a minute that their cigar count would exceed say 300!........and then one day they turn around and their inventory is much larger than ever imagined :-))

I contained my habit for a full year before moving from a 50 count desktop to a larger 300 one.

that lasted 6 months and then I got a wine cooler.

Now I own 2 coolers, one 300 count humi and the desktop.

I look forward to start using the online storage so I can really splurge, do you guys think I might have a problem with self control?

I daren't really start to imagine where I'm headed.I'm still awaiting delivery of a new 150 ct desktop from The US which has cost $90 US and I'm ALREADY thinking that I should have spent a bit more and got a small cabinet!! Strangely,as an aside, the said desktop went into UK customs a week ago and hasn't come out yet! The cigars come through no problem (so far) and the humi gets held up!! go figure that one :2thumbs:
