Smoked another one of these from my box of 25 from 2000, with a friend to celebrate his engagement.

Still lovely cigar - floral, gingerbread, etc - but the last couple i've had don't seem as flavourful as before...

Many variables involved of course, but I was wondering:

fellow smokers, if you still have a box of these have you noticed the flavour starting to fade away or otherwise?

cheers.

[hopefully i just had two weak tastebuds days ;-) ]

I have had a similar issue with a box from 2002. Almost half of the cigars had lost their flavors, leaving only a mediocre taste of tobacco… A problem that I've never had with the No.3 and No.4 of the same vintage, with the same box code (OSU).

Nope. My 2002 LGC 1s are excellent. As are my 90s boxes. :)

I only smoke LGC before sundown though. Never with alcohol. In case that helps your assessment....

Great classics, '97s are smoking divine, 01s and 02s are fantastic, hopefully only better down the road.

No issue at all with my July 2002 box :)

Have a box of 08/2002 and they are smoking great. Maybe you just had a couple of bad ones.

This thread inspired me to smoke one this afternoon.

Perfect construction and draw, as rich and as flavourful as ever.

A humid, rainy day here today, which seemed to do the cigar a lot of good;

these never seem to taste as good if they are smoked too dry.

My 2002 MdO's No.1's are smoking well.

I really need to get some more before it's too late :)

ha! gotta love a forum like this where you can find masses of aficionados monitoring the very same boxes of cigars as yourself!

cheers fellas. interesting to hear how our vintage LGCs are progressing. probably my favourite box as they are brilliant cigars and it was one of my first ever vintage buys. for US$126 bargain if i remember correctly. still have about 15 left. getting sentimental now *tears*.

Anyways, i'm right with you here khomenist, these are light and delicate and i only ever smoke these during the day, avoiding conjunction with strong tasting food or drink.

i have a feeling i might have had a burnt tongue (i seem to burn my tongue every 2nd day on tea/coffee/ or even cigarillos!) or bit of a cold. And/or (good point MontrealRon) might have been a bit dry.

Will have to smoke another when i'm In the Mood and healthily mouthed, with ideal conditions of temperature and humidity etc, as a control. Oh what a shame :)

Will report back then too. Long live LGC Med d'Or no.1!

I just smoked an 02 today. Opened at medium full. Lavender, honey, vanilla and a lot of white pepper. About an inch in the white pepper faded out, the body pulled back to medium and flavor profile was vanilla cake. About half way through the cigar, the profile shifted to mainly honey with a little bit of clove. The final third was lavender honey and vanilla again without the spice.

Not fading at all. If anything, these are still getting better.

Interesting thread. Haven't had one out of my 10 box for the best part of a year. Certainly time to see how they are going then.

Box code is OSU Jan 01, smoked the fourth last one and wow, what a smoke. I did not get the subtle herbaceous flavours others have reported here but very robust leathery creamy smoke. Very different to the one I smoked before this which showed more of the expected marmalade, light and complex.

Great smokes, the worst part is that there are only 3 left in the box :)
