amosnaim Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Hey guys, I would appreciate an advice on what humidor to buy. i want something that i can order by mail to the US and take it back home with me on the plane. icame across the Medici humidor which looks nothing fancy but offers large storage room and the option to store boxes at the bottom (advertised as 500ct.). anyone has any experience with it? what do you think, should i go with something like this? or is it a better idea to gain storage volume by collecting smaller luxurious humidors? Thanks
Rogers72 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I have the exact humidor and love it. I've had it for about 3 years. I use 65% beads and added a digital hygro and it has been rock solid. It fits perfectly on the floor in a closet. It comes with two singles trays but I only use one and that allows for more boxes underneath. As far as the 500ct. claim, I'm sure that it could hold 500 cigars if you were able to stack the same size boxes to perfectly fill the bottom but with a mix of different size boxes, it realistically only holds about 10-12 boxes and however many singles you can get in the trays. You could probably jam more than 10-12 boxes but I usually keep it around there and it's about as full as you would want it.

thechenman Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks for the insight...I've been looking into purchasing this humidor as well. Impressed by the size.
amosnaim Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks for the insight...I've been looking into purchasing this humidor as well. Impressed by the size. Yeah, and they sold for around $150... How much can you go wrong for that price? I think this looks like a great buy among the "cheap" un-branded humidors. My only difficulty to decide is whether the luxurious brands like Adorini, Heirloom, etc, really brings extra value.
harryleech Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I have the same humidor - basic but very functional. Like all humidors they overstate the capacity, but you can fit a lot of boxes in it (I've got about 15 of various sizes in mine.) Great value, definitely reccomend it. IMHO $50 for a 75 Qt Coolidor: 1/3 the price, 2X the capacity, easier to root through when you can't find what you want and a $100 left over for a box of cigars...

Much agreed. I have a 100 qt and a 150 qt cooler. Add a few wire shelves and your golden. When they actually have them in stock, Walmart has the 150 Qt for 80.00 online. Do Site to Store and your set. Mine are great. Hold humidity perfectly, easy access. I also bought some spanish cedar trays for loose sticks.
Smallclub Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 My only difficulty to decide is whether the luxurious brands like Adorini, Heirloom, etc, really brings extra value. Adorini is not a luxurious brand. They're made in China, like your Medici, which actually looks like an Adorini…
amosnaim Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Adorini is not a luxurious brand. They're made in China, like your Medici, which actually looks like an Adorini… really? i thought the Adorini re made in Germany. so you are saying they just have a fancy website...

To me this kind of loses the 'feel' of a wooden humidor, although i am sure in terms of cost effeciency you are absoultely right. thanks

davidl Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Famous - how do you plan on tackling the high temperatures in Israel? I have a 120 CT humi, and am about to buy a wine cooler, so that I can store boxes, and not worry about the high temps here.
amosnaim Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Famous - how do you plan on tackling the high temperatures in Israel? I have a 120 CT humi, and am about to buy a wine cooler, so that I can store boxes, and not worry about the high temps here. i keep my humidor in the basments, which is always cool, so i am not really bothered by the temperture. Does a wine cooler considered to be a better way to store cigars than a regular humidor?
davidl Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 While I am not 100% sure...I believe so. It is preferred to keep cigars in their original boxes, and to keep the boxes in your humidor environment. I believe many\most cigar smokers on this forum with large cigar collections keep their cigars inside a wine cooler environment. Those that don't either live in an area where heat is not a problem, or do not want to spend the $$$ on the setup. Again, I may be wrong, butt this is what I have gathered so far. The main reason for the cooling is to avoid cigar beetle infestation...beetles cant hatch unless the temp is above 72F. Imagine ageing your cigars for 6 years, only to open the box and see your cigars ruined by something that could have been avoided as easily as this. Do a search on the forum, you will see loads of truly great info on the subject. Or just read through the "Humidor Tutorial" Section of the forum.
