Holysmokes Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 To be honest, I am not sure if having private property is a good thing... I would like to believe it isn't but I think like anything else, people tend to want more than their fair share.
Murri Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Was in Varadero in March. Just about every house lining the main street in town was setup as a trinket shop. Even some houses on the side streets being setup as cafes. Was not like that last year. Everyone there trying to make extra money with a business. Hope government red tape and taxes doesn't put them out of business.

thechenman Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Fidel resigns....http://www.radioaustralianews.net.au/stori...904.htm?desktop Sadly...most of the world will hardly even notice, or even care. However, I think this a a big move in the right direction, and with Raul seeming to follow the model of Communism that China seems to be operating on, things may soon get better for the Cuban people, if not U.S./Cuba relations.
fbiguy Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I am conflicted about this news. It gives me hope that I might be able to one day be able to travel to Cuba and/or purchase their cigars legally here in the US. But being able to do those things will come with a price I fear, whether its a decline in the quality of Cuban cigars, a dramatic increase in their cost, or the continued impoverishment of Cuban people. I am not sure the pros (for me as a US citizen) outweigh the potential cons for the rest of the world, specifically as it applies to cigars, if the embargo were to end because of these reforms. If I understood the article correctly, there is an ex-Cuban controlling whether our congress ever votes to end the embargo. Seems to me that this person has done to our government what Castro did to Cuba, took away the peoples ability to have their voices heard. Perhaps its for the best, perhaps not. While I wouldn't outright say the US can become isolationist, it sure seems like we need to stop meddling in others affairs and get our own in order. Thankfully there is still hope for a better tomorrow for the Cuban people.
Dbone Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Thankfully there is still hope for a better tomorrow for the Cuban people. Amen to that.
