Matt Day Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Hey all just a question but for a good cigar would u pay whatever the cost, if it was guaranteed to be a good smoke? Or would u say that there is a price line that you would stop at however good a cigar it is ? Or incase of the latter would u consider only buying a few and limiting your consumptoin? myself i would probly
thechenman Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 It all depends on how good the smoke is guaranteed to be...
PigFish Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 This question attempts to define a lot of relative terms. I can't answer it. I think I pay too much for cigars already and I smoke some damn good ones that don't cost much. I think that any cigar that you buy should produce the desired effect. I mean would you buy heart medication at $3.00 a pill that only worked now and again? If your car did not start every other day, would that be acceptable? I think not. So for me the answer is in the education of the consumer and the demand for accountability from the manufacturer of the products we consume. While your favorite cola is not produced like a cigar don't you want what you pay for every time you consume it? Would you go back to the local sandwich shop which made a good sandwich every 3rd visit? What works for you? I think a PC should cost no more than 3 bucks. I think that it should be good every time! Understanding that it is a natual product I can grant a 10 percent or so disappointment rate. What does H SA et al provide now? Sometime 20% failure, sometimes 90% failure? These guys run their business pretty poorly. Spend some time on the daily smoke column and see how many people are disappointed with the cigars they smoke and it is pretty telling! Many of us have been convinced that H SA et al should be given a break on their crappy products because they produce the best products overall. I see this as a necessity as it is outside of my control but nonetheless a rather poor business model. I could list many a reason why but I won't bother. I have said it all here before. You pay a lot for your cigars, don't you? I don't mean that someone like Rob does not offer a fair price, but does the manufacturer really hold up his end? No ******* way!!! 90% of the cigars you smoke should be good or excellent and I don't care what you pay for them. These are bunched leaves that are no more than weeds to farmers who would grow another plant. With the hundreds of years of experience in farming and producing cigars under their belts the failure rate when expressed in good or excellent smoking experience is a rubber stamp of failure of H SA et al in general. How much would a pay for a cigar that tastes great every time; well I am paying it now and I am not getting what I pay for!!! -Piggy
thechenman Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 While Piggy offers up some vary valid points, in the spirit of the thread with no consideration to vitola (size) for a cigar that would score a guaranteed 87 points with the potential for more, I would say not very much. Probably $5 on average. Now if the score would be 90 or higher, then I would be willing to pay significantly more...say $12. I guess you would ask then...if for a guarantee of an 87 or 90 you would pay $5 or $12, respectively...why would you ever shell out $35, $50 or more for a cigar that could potentially score a sub-70. Well...I would have to say it is for the potential, the hope, the experience, and the hype - by hype I mean the fear of missing out on something better than just good.
