Whodat Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I recently had the opportunity to purchase a box of Partagas Shorts within the last week. The box is dated MAR 10. After letting them get some rest I decided to light one up today. As many of you know, this cigar is a Minuto (4.3" x 43). Although it's short in stature, it is my no means short on flavor. Here's my experience: Opening - I tasted coffee and cayanne pepper right off the bat. 1/3 - There was delicious cayanne pepper and the coffee transitioned into a stronger espresso flavor. 2/3 - While the cayenne pepper held true, the espresso flavor became less intense and there was a plesant surprise of cinnamon within this third. 3/3 - On the last 3rd, the cayanne pepper was still present and still wonderful. The espresso came back, but not too forceful. There was also a hint of nutmeg in this final 3rd. Smoking time: 55 minutes - I generally smoke slow and today was no exception. I probably would have smoked it for 1 hour, but the cigar was getting too hot to hold. Final notes: Although this cigar wasn't extremely complex, it didn't have to be. The flavors I experienced were more than enough to keep my interest. I loved the spicyness of this cigar! All in all I'm glad I purchased the box and can't wait to smoke more of them. I'm not really big on giving a numbered score. However, I will say this is a great cigar and I will always have at least a box on hand (until I can increase my capacity, then It will be 2 boxes)! Thanks to all who have taken the time to read my review.
bassman Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Glad you enjoyed the cigar. Get a cab instead of two boxes!
Tarks Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Love the minutos! The Shorts are my fav! Thanks for the review.
adic88 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 50s cab, definitely. I enjoy the round shape of the cabs version rather than the box press you find with the dress boxes.
dicko Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks for the review! I'm working through a dud box at the moment but I know how good they can be and also liking having them on hand. Cheers
Whodat Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 Glad you enjoyed the cigar. Get a cab instead of two boxes! That's a good idea. I may look into that once I can increase my capacity.
dB69 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks for the review! Shorts are my favourite and I haven't met a bad one yet, smoked quite many. I would recommend to wait until their 2nd birthday, they will be noticeably better then. I agree with the others to go for the cabinets..
mazolaman Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks for reviewing this great little piece of partagas magic...
Dbone Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I enjoyed reading your review. Reads a bit more complex than I've come to expect from the Minuto or PC camp. The D4, P2, P1, 898 have really impressed me, although the Shorts have eluded me for to long! Time for me to score some. Thanks Whodat
thechenman Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Glad you enjoyed the cigar. Get a cab instead of two boxes! x2 on this...you can't beat the cab for Party Shorts...it's not just because they are in the round. While I do prefer my cigars in the round, the cabs seem to perform better than the dress boxes with this cigar...IMHO.
CUBANO Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Thanks for the review. Have six left from 2005, need to get a box.
sharil Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 ----------------------------------------------------------------------Smoking time: 55 minutes - I generally smoke slow and today was no exception. I probably would have smoked it for 1 hour, but the cigar was getting too hot to hold. That is quite long for me to smoke down a minuto. however if smoke a slower I think it avoid the cigar for building up too much heat. How is the strenght? Would be interested to know how it evolved after a year of aging. Great review, thanks for sharing
