Liga Privada T52 ‘Flying Pig’ cigar left me with a bag of ‘mixed’ emotions. Vitolas that I usually buy & smoke are in corona, corona gorda, lancero territory, hence delay in smoking Flying Pig. This perfecto on horizontal steroids and lack of vertical hormones was definitely visually more pleasing from photography perspective than smoking lust. If you are into ‘NUB’ concept and enjoy wide ring gauge cigars, this is The Unicorn.

On the outside, the Piggy was packed well, really well. Extremely toothy wrapper and fancy pigtail were the main characteristics of the cigar. Although the middle of the stick was 60-wide, the foot was small enough to go up against a single flame torch lighter. The very beginning presented small amount of sweetness on the tip of the cigar. Few puffs into it, I was able to taste a bit of spice in the back of my throat. As I was going through the narrow head and working my way toward 60 ring gauge, I was putting extra effort to extract more flavor and more smoke – all without much success. Frequent retrohale didn’t help either. “Good things come to those who wait” and it came, full force. Cigar went from no smoke to smoke machine in a matter of split seconds. Fortunately same applied to the flavor department. Each puff had a good amount of cedar, cocoa, coffee, chocolate and enjoyable sweetness that lingered in the background. From burn & construction perspective, overall, very impressing. Although similar to smoke & flavor ‘questionable’ beginning, the latter part was top notch with razor-sharp burn line. Ash was tight and had a ‘clean’ / light gray look to it.

I have been trying to get ahold of one or two of those since they were released a couple of years ago. No luck. Too late now.

If HSA produces retro version of the vitola, I might seek one out.

One of my favorite NC! You can still get the T52 Flying Pig but the #9 Flying Pig from last year is sold out. The T52 is better anyway, IMO. I can only dream of a CC in that vitola

I've been lobbying whenever I have had an opportunity for HSA to revive these in a Regional Edition. I suppose it must not have been all that popular back when H. Upmann had it in regular production (if I am not mistaken) or it would not have been discontinued. Still, the old timers seem to rave about it. Maybe it is better in retrospect than it was in reality... Who know? But if they can make the jaw breaking Behike 56 a success, one would think there's a market for a new Flying Pig.

Would you say that the flavor profile of the T52 Flying Pig is similar to the others in the T52 line? Like the robusto or parejo?

I really like the Liga Privada T52 line. I have the robusto, the Belicoso and of course, the pig. You can tell they all have the same blend and are all very good. What sets the pig apart from the others is the smoke volume that you get out of it. Another great Liga Privada is the Dirty Rat. I don't think it is considered a T52, but very similar wrapper (dark and Oily) and an excellent smoke.

It is very similar to the other T52's that I've tried but I find it a little sweeter and as said above, the sheer amount of smoke is amazing.

I did not care for the "Dirty Rat" which, to me, was quite harsh and the flavors didn't seem to blend together very well. Maybe it was too young.

I still prefer the LP#9 to the T-52 and Dirty Rat...
