With Japanese people on my mind I smoked La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or #2.

The colorado maduro wrapper is very shiny and oily. Scent as cold is mild tobacco with a hint of cocoa. Firm construction.

Cutting with scissors. Quite tight cold draw with some ginger in it, nice. Lighting with a semi-torch.

Starting with a nutty and bright tobacco taste. Slightly creamy tobacco follows including hints of pear every now and then. Pear is noticed clearer from the smoke in the air. Tobacco becomes toasty. Strength is little less than medium. Oh, 2cm of the ash drops down to the floor by doing nothing. Quite loose ash despite the firm construction. Mild whitepepper wakes up. On the background there is some light cocoa. For some time it feels like I'm smoking a Partagas. Some fruitcandy is noticed. A hint of toffee.

Burn is somewhat good. Tobacco has gone a little stronger, but at the same time softer or should I say more round. The smell in the room is nutty soil. Something creamy sweet and some kiwi-like green fruit are appearing. Tobacco with ginger. The saltiness of tobacco has increased a little.

Very Partagas-like section again. Toasted nutty tobacco with toffee. Delicious! Strength has jumped to the stronger side of medium. Fruitiness has disappeared totally. Sharp and salty tar tastes in my mouth. Toffee and toasted tobacco are nicely layered for some time in the end.

The aftertaste is wonderful and very heavy and lasts almost for an hour. Nuts, cinnamon and cream are dancing there each in turn with strong tobacco. Yummy!

An excellent cigar! I think I have to get more of these..

Thanks for the review. One of my favorite cigars; have 18 left from a box dated TEB Jul/07.

Thanks for the detailed review. I have to be in the mood, which seems to occur mostly on weekend mornings, but when I want one of these, they really hit the spot. I agree that the No. 2's often reveal a Partagas-like spice and flavor profile, but it has more complexity than an 898V, and a distinct fruity note for my palate.

Nice review with Pic's.

The last LGC I smoked was a MdO No.2 and it was stellar. Wish these were still in current production.

The MdO No. 2 and 4 are still in current production. The 1's and 3's were the ones that were cut. :)

How does the Tainos compare to this one? I love the Medaille d'Or #1 and #3 that I have so I am thinking of picking up a box, if they are similar in taste.

Great review.

Looks a lovely cigar.

What date is the box?

Thanks!

Bought a single and didn't notice to check the boxcode :D

If I may make a wild guess, I would say it was -08 :)

All I can say is that #4 is more fruitier and brighter than #2. They are actually quite different compared to each other.

Never had #1, #3 or Tainos. Please, don't make a decision based on this answer... (I knew you wouldn't) :)
