I'll be staying in SF for two weeks and would love to spend free time at a few cigar friendly bars. Prefer pub-type settings vs "clubbing". Suggestions? B)

I was just at a Restaurant/Bar called La Bodeguita del Medio in Palo Alto. It is not in San Francisco. It is near Stanford U., about 30mins South of SF. They have a room in the back (and a patio) for cigar smoking. To avoid issues with the CA laws, they do not offer service in the cigar smoking areas. You basically need to head to the bar yourself. A nice, unique setting. Worth checking out if you come down that way.

If you like the pub style setting I would recommend Cigar Bar & Grill in SF...just a few blocks from the Transamerica building. Just enjoyed a RyJ Wide Churchill there a week ago. No smoking in the bar, but they have a fantastic outdoor area, and a separate detached indoor lounge accessible by way of the outdoor smoking area. Great selection of beverages, but haven't had the food. I smoked outdoors and find that this time of year, the weather is nice enough in SF to smoke outdoors with a light jacket or sportcoat.

+1 on both above suggestions but my favorite place in SFO is the Occidental Cigar Bar on Pine St. It's a pretty small place and their on-site selection is not great but you can bring your own stick and enjoy it with a Single Malt or Rum or whatever your poison of choice is. The bartenders are funny as ****.

BTW, the Occidental and Cigar Bar are the ONLY two places that I know of in San Francisco that allow indoor (or semi-indoor) smoking.

thanks very much guys!! will definitely try one or two in SF proper, though I'm really hopeful I'll have opportunity to get out to that spot in Pale Alto - looks fabulous and I've been to the original in Havana.

cheers again :peace:

I love San Fran. Great place, great people (well some), and great food.

Enjoy your stay. I hear Castro Street is a good place to smoke a stoogie. B)

I was at the Occidental Cigar Bar a couple years ago. I agree, small but a great place. The bartenders and patrons were very friendly and I had no problem bringing my own sticks. I was there during March and it was too cold to smoke outside, especially at night or I would have tried The Cigar Bar...

The 3 places mentioned above are just about the only places left to smoke in the greater San Francisco area. Welcome to the anti-smoking state of California.
